I didn't ride it enough!
« on: October 24, 2023, 02:05:41 PM »
This tire didn't come close to wearing out before aging out. I had already mounted up a new set of BT46's on wire wheels for it a couple months ago. You can't tell but it's on my diecast and  a Lester mag. I got one last ride before the change-out and then I saw this.

Edit- I checked and shame on me, that tire is 14 years old, it has been getting about a hundred miles a year around town since I got the gl1000. It has just over 400 miles showing on the NOS speedometer. The sandcast is probably getting even less. Lately I've been riding the 71 Hot Rod a lot.

Wow, the rubber does dry out.

Must have hit a rock or something to tear out that chunk.

It's a Dunlop, K77 maybe? I haven't been riding it much and neglected to install the new tires and wire wheels.
I gathered a K0 wide front hub and a two hole rear hub and laced up new DID rims and spokes. I've had the new tires mounted for a couple months, just haven't had the lift empty. I took it for a neighborhood ride to move the gas around and get some heat in it and found this when I got home.
I had mixed feelings about new rims with stamped sides, but my used ones aren't as shiny.

I was doing stoppies on the 71 since I put the F1 caliper on it. I remembered that I scalloped a tire once on my double disc F1 practicing stopping so I let up a little on my new radial.
This bike won't hurt a tire while stopping, a problem I intend to solve.
