Oil filter bolt stuck on CB500 K2, How do I get it unstuck?
« on: October 05, 2023, 12:16:02 PM »
I have been trying to remove the oil filter on my CB500F.  I have tried penetrating oil, heat (propane torch) and an Easy Out without success.  Does someone have another idea to try to get this filter housing loose?

Hammer a smaller socket onto the old bolt head 3/16 whitworth works or weld a bigger nut on to bolt head, been discussed many many times on the forum
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

The fact that you say Easy Out implies you've already broken off the head of the bolt?

if you still have any head on that bolt, the best way is to carefully with a punch or chisel knock in the undo direction that bolt either on the head or better the big flange under it.

The best thing to use is a six point socket so the head does not get chewed. For some reason people think this bolt needs a lot of torque when installed. If it will not come off you will have to blast lol. Maybe use a hole saw to cut around the bolt when all else fails and then perform careful surgery.
