Newday...The 142 stock flasher can only work properly, with correct flash rate, using incandescent bulbs as in is a thermal flasher. If you are trying to keep your bike 100% original (you didn't say???) You can order a 142 from Honda.

for anyone curious about originality:
I only see mitsuba offered as a replacement flasher from Honda, then you have to get a new rubber holder as this one does not fit the original one. The original "142" appears to have been superseded 3 times.
Let me know where a new "142" can be purchased.
My 1st edition honda parts book does says "Signal stat 142" . However, that was not in my '75 550F, when I found it in 1994 with 6800 miles on it. It had what is in the picture. That same relay showed up on ebay from a '74 550 K. I thought that was...interesting....I bought it. There are no identifying marks, except that #, on these relays. No manufacturer name, no nothing.
Mine had stopped working.
The Indian/honda guy I know says he remembers nothing but signal stats on their bikes. Every old honda we examined had those. He had 7 relays sitting back in a box, plus a "new" one in the honda package. I bought that one.
He says that mine has to be aftermarket.
So begins the weird stuff.
So I tried 5 of the 7 , plus the "new" 142 one. They did not work! I made sure My rpm's were high, charged battery, etc. The lights come on but don't blink.....ok..got it...even the "new" 142 was decades old...
I put the other "aftermarket " relay in....and the blinkers work....christ...
Furthermore.....every signal stat 142 says "made in U.S.A" ...some even had the city on it...?
So a vintage 70's honda left the japanese factory with a U.S. made part? ...in the 70's ?....
Is the "aftermarket" winker in fact an original from japan?....but that goes against normal japan procedures as it is not marked with any identification, and is not what's shown in a 1st edition parts book....but U.S. manufacturers put their names on parts also......so...
I don't think there's a provable answer one way or the other.
It's a honda curiosity thing.....
