after a rebuild ive placed old hard drive magnets on them,i switch them onto the new filters and watch as the debris deminishes, even as you go years they still attract minute metal, lot to be said for magnetic filtration.
Now, THERE's an excellent idea! I have about 5 old hard drives around here, gotta go find them...
The 'too thin' O-rings fit other makes of bikes, like Kawi and Suzy. They never did, nor should they be used to, fit these Hondas. I've replaced too many cracked oil filter housings where someone overtightened the 'big bolt' trying to make the skinny O-rings seal: they will not at even half oil pressure in the 750.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

Luckily I have a GS 1100 and a KZ 1000 to use up the skinny ones on. 8)

Unless you are using steel canned aftermarket filters you cannot stick the magnet to the aluminum filter housing and it stay without gluing it or strapping it on…

Somewhere in here there is a photo of a hard drive magnet on a standard type filter. I recently got a pair of magnetic drain plugs for my bikes.

At work we have coming up on forty large molding presses, the older ones are 1000 tons and the newer ones are 2500 tons. They all use 400-800 gallons of AW68 or AW100 hydraulic oil, the older machines use the AW100. Each hydraulic tank has a large magnet that hangs from a 1" pipe plug. We do a monthly PM where we yank the magnet and clean it. A couple times in the last 5 years something had failed and the 3/4" magnet came up out of the tank with 2" of iron/steel hanging on it. Then they drain the oil and clean the tank after fixing what failed, and filter the oil to clean it. We have the oil tested quarterly and change based on the results. We have a few times sent the 800 gallons to somebody to remove non ferrous stuff from it, brass/bronze that was the only reason it was not to spec. That was another part failure that caused that.

Yesterday I drained the atf from our race car transmission, it only has a few runs on it, so I wanted to save it. I drained it into a small gas can, then later transferred it to a gallon jug. The gas can has a screen on the pour spout and I was surprised how much gunk was on the screen. I had rinsed the gas can first so I'm unsure where the stuff came from. The bottom of the trans case maybe.
I'll know more when we drop the oil pan.
