All don in powder coat and the clear as well
looks good on the bike
This might be the way to go in the future if chrome is out of reach in the price range
Its very expensive here in Canada
The only place we can have it chromed is Calgary Alberta and the cost is sky high

I sure like that result in those fork ears. I’ve seen some samples of that “chrome” powder coat (+clear coat) locally and thinking my Rickman CR frame is going that route. Chrome is crazy expensive in Ontario too and I can’t even find any one I could trust to bright nickel plate my frame. That finish is so close, it might just have to do!

I don't know if the Rickman frame is welded or brazed. If brazed, you won't like the result of powdercating as the heat will melt the brazing and you will be left with a pile of loose tubing. Someone tried to do it on a Seeley frame.

I’ll have to check that out! I didn’t think powder coating required that much heat!

It wasn't powder coating causing the bronze to melt, it was galvanic process to remove the nickle finish that had failed in this post on a Seeley frame.....

These catastrophes are what makes me so nervous. I’ve actually traded some emails with the shop in England that plates the new Rickmans. Seriously thinking of sending it back to them! It’s very small and light when totally dismantled. The alternative is the chrome powder coat. Probably what I will do when the frame is completed.

While perusing John I saw you were mentioning about going to look at a Seeley in 2019 and you were going reply back on the outcome but you never got back to it. Did you look at it?

Stu…. I did! It was hacked about and the owner had a pretty inflated view of what it was worth. I then bought the Rickman and lost track of it.

Well I'm one to preserve original as mush as possible
and the reasen for that is they don't make it again later in time

There was a sad Sunday when I took two frame to the scarab bin
The parts bike I bought had a cut frame from the PO That lost interest in the project after he realized the amount of
work and dedication it takes to do a project
To bad a HONDA CB750F had to loos it's life because people think they can do it
The second one had split tubes from having water in the tubes and sat out side in the frost for years
to bad so sad

John by the looks of things, you do things the right way

There use to be a place in town that did have the ability to strip every thin from car body's to small projects
I use to get all my V8 blocks dipped in acid bath

In addition to low temperature brazing, the Rickman frames are made with an extremely thin wall Reynolds chrome moly tubing. I’ve heard of frames being left too long and virtually disappearing. Yikes!

Time for a update
I just started to powder coat
That is slick and minimal mess in the garage .No over spray only some dust that don't stick when it falls to the floor

Body work is at the painter and decal is also at the painter
He is going to clear coat over the decal 

Got a couple more parts delivered on Friday morning
ordered brake lines from Paragon Performance as a kit

here is a couple pictures of the new toy I got on Wednesday
for making life a bit easier
Cost a bit more then I wanted to spend.It works

Wall oven used $80 bucks and had to make use of the limited garage space (need more room )

John, pretty sure Cambridge Custom Chrome can do anything you need. Over the years have had lots of Corvette stuff done there including C2 half-bumpers which are difficult to plate and they come back in showroom condition. NOT cheap though. To boot, they will pick-up and return your parts to your door. FYI in the rare event you have not heard of them. Cheers Bill

Bill…. I used them for the chrome on my Sandcast. They don’t do bright nickel. Seems like no one does it the scale needed for a full sized frame…..

Merry Xmas every one
Well I'm at a stall on the bike .Waiting for parts
Brake hoses are on the way from Paragon Polyhose from California (in the mail)
parts are out for painting .Tank side covers and tail section

Started to do my own powder coating (I like it no paint smell and over spray)
Bought a blasting cabinet and powder gun
That is going to save me some cash over time
have done all the foot pegs and center stand and side stand
looks good and easy to do (one small F&^%$# up)did not get enough powder on first piece
other then that its good

Got tire on the bike and all brakes are assembled less hoses

I'm starting on the engine soon
Need to pull head and cylinder
Re ring and do the head (head gasket leaking and low compression all across)
rings and head work will do the trick

Tank and covers and tail is going stock color
Candy Presto Red R-8CS
tank stripe will be under the clear coat as per painters word
We have a local guy here that does motorcycle paint. He was a paint rep and technical paint rep for years for sikkens paint
Working out of his shop at home (now retired )need some thing to do with his time
hoping to have the paint done in the new year
Will post as soon as I get it back (cant wait )

Nice work indeed HH. So 1 question on the powder coat as I am thinking of getting something setup for myself. Are you just using an old oven to bake the parts? It looks like they are hanging from an oven rack so I assume you slide the rack/parts in the top slot and fire it up to 400F? Cheers and happy holidays to you, Bill

Yes I use a standard house oven
Heat to 400F and check when it flows out and then 20 bake time cool down and install
Blow out garage with leaf blower and good to go NO ODER
 
Bought a used one on kijiji for $80 dollar and made a rack on the wall
plugs in to the welder plug and will take all the small parts

The oven works fine for small stuff
The frame I get the powder shop to do it
They have the tools to do big things and more experience(remember powder coat can only be removed with B17 acid)
no room for mistakes
Frame and swing are is $425.00 can dollar to do cheap fort the amount of work there is to coat a frame

Actually you can remove powder coat pretty easily with a torch to burn it off. It'll smoke and stink so you wanna be doing this process outside. I restored an ECO Tireflater air meter years ago which the previous owner had powder coated yellow and white ... and I wanted it back to the original blood red. Tried blasting in my cabinet with aluminum oxide and it would barely touch it. Then had the brilliant idea to hang the pieces on wire from a tree and burn it off with the torch. On thin metal like the covers of an ECO meter you just go slow and be careful not to overheat the metal ... just apply enough heat till the powder coat starts to bubble and turn black. Let it cool, put it back in the blast cabinet and with very little effort that black char will blast off easily. Give it a try next time you have to remove some. Cheers, Bill

I have a tail light bracket that I have to strip
I will try this way
Also thought about heating it in the oven on self clean mode just to get it hot and see what happens

Bit of a update
Tank and body work is in color and looking good
Need to be fished wet sand and stripe and re clear coated and some more wet sanding

Head is ready to go to machine shop for valve grind   
waiting on new valve guides and valves (not cheap for super sport 410 )parts

Ported the head a bit for some free horse power
Just blended the ports and polished

Looking for a replacement cam ? remember it's a super sport and the cam is different cam spec 
is there some out there that is affordable $$$$$$$$
