Engine Model Kits
« on: October 20, 2023, 10:34:40 AM »
I see there are two engine 1/3 scale model kits available for the 750 engine, one is Entex and the other is Minicraft. I was wondering if anyone has one of these, because the Entex one is about double the price. I don't really care about the battery powered functions I would just want the best looking model.

From the pictures the Entex looks more detailed. I did chuckle about the plug wires coming out of the starter cover on the Minicraft.

Wouldn’t a 1/3 scale example be the CT70 engine  ;D (Just kidding of course).

The higher priced kits often have better quality on the finishing (removing the mold flash etc). So if you want good quality example, the Entex appears the be the one. If that level of detail is not as important, choose the other.

My concern was that they could be the same parts just branded differently. Since they are the same size and have the same functions. I can only find examples of the minicraft one built in videos/pictures online.

I built the Minicraft kit.
Unfortunately it was missing a connecting rod from the kit so I didn't try to install any of the electrics.
(Not that I was really excited about that part any way.)
It's not a great kit, the instructions were terrible and it required some fitting to assemble but it's what's available these days.
It turned out pretty nice as a static display.

I'm sure the Entex is a better kit however I don't think it's in production any more so any kit you find will be "vintage" and priced accordingly. (And probably worth more as an un-built kit.)

yeah I watched a couple videos of the minicraft and it looks alright on the exterior, the interior is pretty bad but I also don't care about that. The minicraft is about $60 and the other one is $100.

I have an unbuilt k0 model and I went over those instructions and they were so baren I'm not expecting much. I guess I may have to get the Entex as an experiment then..

Yeah the Minicraft kit was accurate enough on the outside but if you want the best kit the Entex is probably better. I just didn't want to spend that much.
I'd like to find a Tamiya CB750 Four kit but they are really pricey!

ive sectioned a ct70 engine and a few two stroke chain saw motors ages ago and kghost has them in his shop, that may be more rewarding if you come across old motors than building a plastic kit?they all turn showing all the actions and Tim has used them to show people how motors operate.

I have an off brand 1/8 scale model, unbuilt. But I am liking the idea of getting the large engine model and building it for disply.

It's always been my understanding that the Minicraft is simply a reboxing of the Entex kit.

I have the minicraft in my "little museum". Bought this kit 20-25 years ago. I'm very pleased with the quality of this kit.

Mine has been calling to me from my stash for 16 years now; maybe it's time. Are there any problem areas that you noted with your build?

I'm mostly wondering if any parts are the incorrect colour and require painting.

Oh yes, the result will be much more realistic if you paint it!

Yes, do paint it.
I didn't paint mine and now after five years or so some of the parts are yellowing with age. Looks like some of the parts are made with different plastic than others. Maybe the parts that were intended to be "chrome".

How is the molded in aluminum colour holding up?

The rest of the plastic still looks fine, no color change.

I just bought the Minicraft Honda CB750 engine in 1/3 scale.
It's only missing one part, but it is the main part that holds everything together. It's the back of the cylinders, the part where the intake manifold is.
Does anyone have this kit or the Entex kit and be willing to send me pictures and measurements of this part so I can try scratch building it. I would like 6 pictures, front, back, left side, right side, top and bottom.
Thanks for any help.
