front and rear turn signals light and turn off but don't flash
« on: October 24, 2023, 02:40:47 PM »
Hi, this just happened today. I have Moletti Parts LED signals. I've has no issues until today.

Initially my brake light and signals wouldn't light up. Now when I flip from left to right I can hear a click on what I believe is the relay for them but they light up once and then off with no flashing.

The brake light is also lighting up now. But doesn't seem to do anything when I apply rear brakes. It just stays lit.

Any ideas of where to start?

Relay to start?

Thank you

Yes it could be the turn relay has gone bad.

A bad turn-signal relay wouldn't affect the brake light.

Check your grounds.

Also with stock signals I'd open each light and look for rust inside.

With these LED signals... And the brake light?... I'm out of ideas.
Edit: sounds like 2 seperate issues.
Is your flasher rated for LED use?

Bike is running right? Often you can see issues with signals when bike is not running...

I'd add a temporary ground jumper to the fender/grab bar area, just to see if it solves anything.

I bought a test light and will go through everything today. I watched alot of wiring videos so I should have a good idea what's going on today.

Bike runs good. Fully charged battery.

As of now brake light powers on but only engaged with front lever and not foot lever.

Switching back and forth from left to right on the signal gets one flash and then it doesn't light up or signal until I switch it back and forth again.

I'll update after findings.

LED signals will require an electronic flasher that can handle mixed bulbs, incandescent and LED. The stock flasher design is resistance based and requires a certain load for it to function. Missed that you had installed LED turn signals…
Auto parts stores should carry an electronic flasher or two and some are designed for mixed use while others are strictly for LED. Probably fewer are electronic and only incandescent given incandescent lights are getting fewer and fewer…

LED's pull so few watts the power won't jump a poor connection such as a corroded bullet connector or a bad ground. A friend put all LED's on his boat trailer and none of them would light. He removed them all and re-installed the old bulbs before fixing the chassis ground.

(sigh) Just use bulbs. They're allround and most effective.

It has a LED flasher relay which after testing appears to be the issue.

This bike has had a few owners include bike builders. It is how it came along with many other mods. All the wiring checks out though and appears to be the flasher relay.

Ok, so all the videos below I went through. I figured I'd post links for newbies. Lots of good information.

The taillight circuit all works. It turns out it's just going to be an adjustment as when I push down hard it does work and all testing indicates grounds and power work correctly. This bike has a brembo aftermarket so that I'll have to figure out.

The signals which are LED and tied in as the below photo all are grounded and have power as I went through in the videos. Looks to be the flasher relay.

I will update once that is changed.

This is the current one that has been in the bike for a couple years now. Any other alternatives or "better" ones to get?

Got the same flasher I had previously today. That was the issue.

Thank you for all input.
