Daytona velona60 tach

In wiring this tach I believe I tap into one of two wires going into the coils.  One side blue and one side yellow.  Does it matter which side I tap into?  The instructions are not clear.  Also I notice a pulse rectifier option in the instructions which makes me curious if this is needed.
