Hey Everyone,

I’ve read some conflicting information over the years maybe it pertains only with  newer bikes, but how do you prep your old CB?

I rust coated my tank about seven years ago however it’s still an old bike and I don’t know how well of a job I did lol.

Should I keep gas in the tank or do you drain yours?

I’ve always left gas in the tank filled to the top with a preserve agent and then I close the peacock and ride out what’s left in the bowls. Is this okay?

Thank you!

This method has served me best, be it that it implies you have to do a little say every two months. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,191309.msg2264155.html#msg2264155

Fill the tank and disconnect the lines after you drain the carbs. I use a short piece of clear tubing to tie the two spigots together. Any “drool” gets caught in the loop.

I drain the tank in the spring and put the gas in my old truck. Fresh gas in the tank.

Will do thanks!

Can the tank really accumulate rust if emptied and let to sit till may from November?

Some people swill a small amount of gas and two stroke oil (50/50) and then shake it out in the Spring……

The storage climate one vital part.
My garage is dry and warm. It is part of the house. Door from utility room.

I do nothing except charging  battery until charger show green.
A day or over night. Once every month or 2 months, even in riding season. Plus after carb sync or other battery draining jobs.
Fuel as left.

I usually start my now 2 bikes mid winter. More for me than let "new" fuel fill the carbs.

If I should live in a very humid place with changing  temperatures, I should take in battery in house/appartment and store bike in a sealed tent that other guys here have showed.

Sacks of drying agents inside too. Or another air  drying device.

I stored my K6 in a barn during 19 years. Except for rust inside tank, rusty valve seats.  No ethanol in fuel then.

Fuel stabilizer if fuel contain ethanol.
I have a bottle I have not used yet.
Bought it cheap at my nearby dyno shop for test.

Today low ethanol fuel if any, Shell V-Power.
I should never use E10 fuel in anything.

Maybe OK in a Molotov coctail. ;D

I do the same with my four stroke small gas engines during storage. Usually just 32:1 dirt bike gas. After dumping what’s in them, I’ll fill the steal tanks full and add some to the plastic tanks. Honda and Predator tanks are steel. Then start them and run them until I can smell the Motul 2cycle oil in their exhaust.  Usually left over dirt bike gas. Which is real gas (unleaded) usually 91 or better mixed with Motul or Honda synthetic 2cycle oil..Motul smells really good…

Following a rider using Castror 927 (battery acid smell) will result in (PeWe’s words) a quick twist of the throttle on the old 01 CR500R.

*Worst thing about a CR500, * only has 5 gears…
*Best thing about a CR500, what ever gear you’re in….*That’s the “Right” gear….😁
