You know what they say, the two happiest days of a boat owners life are the day he gets it and the day he sells it ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sold my boat last May and I just can't believe what a relief it has been.  Big storms come and go with no worry from me about how the boat is doing.  No more insurance.  No more slip fees.  West Marine catalogs come in the mail and go straight to the trash.
Bikes are so much easier.  Ride it if I want.  Or not.  It makes no difference.  If it is cold, I can still work on it in the garage.  I plan to own a lot of other bikes, but I will NEVER own another boat.

What kind of an 'islander' lives without a boat?  Doesnt' that create an identity crisis?

You're going to have big muscles with all that extra swimming to get around...  ;D

Hey, don't get me wrong, I still have a ski boat, a dingy c/w motor and 2 kayaks. But those summer long trips to Alaska are now done;-(  Thinking of taking the money and buying some more local real estate.

I am not going to miss the Spring haul outs and moorage fees ;-)

Whoever said 'two happiest days are when you buy your boat, and when you sell it' is spot on!

I had a sailboat- looked great, neato interior..  Nice sails, nice sailing boat- it even motored nicely!  BUT, it was just big enough to not be comfortable to singlehandedly take out- and none of my buddies like sailing..  Slip fees kept coming in, and guilt over not doing maintenance that was needed.  Then tried to sell her, and I got the run-around like I'd never even fathomed!  One day I'd hear "I love the boat!  I'll buy it!  I'll come to your marina and take over the slip payments!  I'll pay you tomorrow!"  Next day "my wife said it needs too much work", etc.

I ended up giving it away- 22ft. sailboat in great shape, great sails, great two-cylinder two-stroke outboard Johnson running strong, trailer with double axle!  I gave away the whole friggen smash for free!!!  And you know what?  I was still happy!  No more slip payment, no more hauling out and painting the bottom, no more boat!  I'll never do that again!

Back in the early '70's when I moved to Fla., I had an opportunity to buy a
sailboat and another one to take flying lessons.  The boat would have been
moored two hours away.  The cost was about the same...at least starting...
but I reasoned that I could use a plane more then the boat. The plane
was not cheap, but I think I used it a lot more then I would have the boat.

You find though that with a plane, and I'm sure a boat, you wind up with
a lot of new friends.  ::) ::)

That's funny. I stopped flying when I got the boat. I was waffling between the two as well. Maybey I should look at a sea plane now;D

As for new friends..........
You do end up entering a new tribe with a boat, just as any new activity will expose you to a new tribe. Kind of like this place, sort of. I take my bikes and enter bike shows now instead of going to boat shows ;D

Kite boarding is my new goal this summer.
