I think the K6 oil tank can breathe a little thru the dipstick cap, overpressure.
I tried a dipstick with a lock on my K6. It looked like that sealed it tighter and should need a breather from tank.

My K6 got an extra breather from the clutch cover after it got bigger bore, 71.25mm.

I did not see any specific problem during all years before. 100.000km
But a breather from oil tank feels safer.

The K6 that I bought new and sold at 45,000 miles in 1983 never had any oil leaks or venting problems. It was a 811 bore, then 836, big cam and I ran it into the red line most of the time. I don't have any thoughts about it needing more ventilation. Honda didn't so why should we.

Honda was responding to changing EPA regulations every year. Pre ‘76, both the tank and cam cover were open to the atmosphere. Then, in 1977, all the hoses connected to a single catch tank that drained everything back to the trans vent or a sealed condensate drain tube (most of us just left the plastic plug off that permanently).

Ideally I’d prefer to use the pre-76 oil tank, but I need it for the Rickman. It was their original design for a reason.

Sincere thanks to “SWOOP”. He read about the solenoid bracket that is missing from my K6 and sent me a nice clean one! What a great forum! Thank you Steve.

Pulled off the speedo and tach today to give the underside and chrome a good cleaning. Also removed the fork caps and dipped both tubes. +10” of fresh, clean fluid in both. Confirmation I did the seals and flushed everything clean when I first got the bike….

Headstock bearings feel smooth and snug. This bike still has the turn signal “beeper” and it works. What an annoying sound! All looks good to go.

Warning: I had some new fork caps from vintage CB750 com. and thought I’d sub them in. They are junk. Thread in about two turns and start to seize. I’ve had this problem before and they sent me replacements, just as bad. Polished up the old ones and they slid right home.

Traded emails with “Lash” today. Will pick up the engine next week.

I traded him four “spare” engines that came with the Rickman race bike for a full rebuild on one of them. It’s a K6. The bike came with a fresh K4 that went in the ‘74 Rickman Honda CR.

Both tach and speedo had one internal lamp burned out. Remember these?  Talk about “original equipment”!

Front end going back together. Must remember to test the four “idiot lights” before I slip the speedometer back in place.

Hooked up a temporary ground today and all the lamps and ignition curcuits work just as they should. Jumpered the neutral safety and oil switches and got lights too.

Spent some time dismantling the foot pegs. Vintagecb750.com recently started selling new springs and I have an NOS set of foot rubbers. Polished up the pins and added some shiny new washers and split pins. Damn things look so nice I now have to pull them down and repaint! It’s all in the details, I guess.

Usually, US Post and Canada Post are pretty reliable…….NOT THIS TIME!

I really wanted an extra key for this bike. Unlike most of my old Hondas, the one I have operates the ignition switch, seat and headstock lock. Searched around and one of the usual sellers had one. Of course “International Shipping” was more than the key, but what the hell, “it’s only money”.

The vendor posted it promptly and I got the tracking number. 24 hours later it was in Chicago, on November 29th. Where it sat. A few days ago it appears to have been discovered, but still in the building, +40 days later!! Going in circles? Not taking any bets.

Spoke with “Lash” and picking up the engine Wednesday. He suggested a new screw set for all the engine covers, so the Yamiya order went in today. I have a set of polished Allen head screws, but I think this one is staying “stock”.

Went through my engine covers collection and found a chrome cam cover that came with the Carlini Chopper a few years ago. May use it. It’s not perfect, but so much easier to keep clean and shiny than polished alloy. It should clean up nicely. I’m mysteriously short one generator cover and Lash says the one he has is “scared”. We’ll see.

I bought a set of chrome tappet cover caps on EBay a few years ago but don’t see them today. Anyone have a spare set?
