Got everything nicely prepped and built a wheel in under one hour! Smooth sailing!

Nothing improves the looks of a motorcycle like a shiny rim and hub, connected by new spokes! The inside of the rim was pretty crusty, but a few minutes with a wire brush “smoothed” it out enough. Tire mounted and balanced.

Spent more time cleaning out the drive side than building the wheel. Some well intentioned person had packed the cush rubbers with heavy black grease (MolySlip?)! What a mess…….

Cliff….. forgot to check the harness for that starter safety switch connector. Next time!

I’ve never seen a “Bridgestone Accolade 2” Tire before this bike. “Modern construction and soft rubber on a classic tread pattern” according to their website. They were easy to mount and sit well (centred) on the rim. Front and rear almost look identical but only the rear has a directional arrow. Anybody else own a pair?

They were brand new, on the bike when I went to pick it up. I think the rear is marked 4:00 X 18. Old school looks and sizing! I’ll check to see what’s on the front next time. It will be coming off too. The new spokes on the back make the front look VERY crusty! One job leads to another……

Cliff…. Yes. The bike came with three really shiny, solid HM341 pipes. The fourth one was mysteriously different and totally “see through”. Bit of good luck; I have one really nice orphan 341 and it is the right one!

Stu….. I can’t see them here either, on the usual .ca websites. They are +5 years old. The bike has been under cover, in the back of my shop the whole time, so they are going to get used. A bit narrow on the back, but good looking tire.

I like that truing stand....nice job on the wheel, looks great.

Den…… It’s not an expensive one, but works really well. I use it for balancing the mounted tire too. That and the three spoons I bought at the same time have paid back 10 X over the years. I like doing stuff myself, without relying on others.

John, the diode is wired right into the harness. I don't have a starter safety switch with a red plug in my wiring harness. I may have a spare wiring harness in my shed. I'll have a look and report back. Cliff.

Cliff….. today I plugged a few bits into the wiring harness and you are correct! The K6 does not have a starter motor safety switch. All in my imagination. It must have been something else I was working on…… When I did the last 1975 cb750F I installed a new wiring harness. Maybe that was the bike I jumpered out the switch and ended up with an extra. Carry on!

Steve….. truthfully I have a rack with 3-4 extra good pipes, but it seems the one I need is usually the one I don’t have. This time was lucky!

This bike is all original paint. It must have spent a LOT of time parked, and indoors. The frame has a few spots where the paint was is a bit “furry”. Not rusty, but hazy and dull. Grabbed a bottle of this plexiglass polish (it was sitting close by) and tested one area. Wow! Gave it a light rub, let it dry and buffed with a soft cloth. Looks like new.

So far, I’ve repainted the master cylinder and the brake caliper. Everything else is original.

Cleaned up and prepped all the parts for the rear wheel. The sprocket is new, but was missing lock tabs. Will slide it all back together, next time.

Stu…. Checked the front today; 3:50 X 19 and it’s directional too (marked with an arrow and “Front Only”).

I was just about to slide the “fresh” back wheel into place when I spotted the brake pull rod was upside down. Went to flip it over and the split pin was missing from the larger pin at the pedal end…… same for the front end of the brake steady bar!

Yikes. Took everything off and checking it all. The guy I picked this up from did not do this. He took the bike to a local shop for almost everything. Wow.

I sure like the look of those tires, hmmm. Without Avon in the mix now I'm looking for new skins for my next project bikes, the 550 and a 750K4 rebuild. And then my 350F.

Mark….. The 4:00 - 18 on the back is pretty “slim”, but I agree. They look right and were designed for just that. They would be perfect for the 550 too! These have been in my shop a while and still feel very soft. Not sure how long they will last?

I'm thinking that 'authentic look' might help with the price of the 750 when I'm done? Not that I'm greedy, but I do like to be 'authentic' in these rebuilds.

Got the back wheel in place today. The fender and tail light came off for a good scrub. I’ll post some pictures when I put it all back together. I like to give the underside of the fender a good coat of Tremclad silver brush paint. That Bridgestone tire does look good.

This bike has its complete and working lock set. Anybody have an extra T4645 key?

Update: Found one at NOSPARTSNOW.COM. Ordered today.

Wasted a bit more of my life, cleaning the underside of the rear fender! Makes me happyish!
