Wheel looks nice.

What did you use to dress the disk?

The pad that’s on the grinder in the photo. Appears to get zero wear, I use it very lightly. I let it strike the disc to get it running fast and then drag it towards the  outside grinding at about 45 degrees. Keeps it spinning and gives a nice finish.

Den…. The bracket that supports the axle needs to be well gusseted and strong. If anyone needs one, I have 5-6 spare front wheel hubs. $20 + the postage.

Today I converted a couple of 8’ fluorescent fixtures above the bike to 2 X 8’ LED lamps each. “Great balls of fire!”. My shop has never been so bright.

Stripped and tanked a pair of massive flat side carbs for a friend’s snow machine AND got them all back together.

Finally got to the K6. Polished up the old rim and really cleaned the hub. Laid out all the spokes and then decided to leave it until next time……

Come to think of it...in March (2023) I changed out a failing flourescent in my garage to an LED fixtured version.
Weird: in just 2 weeks they ALL suddenly changed out to LEDs like the first one. The old ones went out to the curb, where someone took them and darkened their own garage...now it's like daylight in there, and the electric bill is lower by over half. :)

Yesterday I noticed the front brake pivot is very stiff. Front end came apart. One thing always leads to another……. More snow, so lots of time to do it right.

Is the pivot just crudded-up, or is it seized up from corrosion? The one on my 750K2 did that when it was parked from 2001-2006 and the front brake got really noisy to tell me about it.

...sort of like the dog when we forgot to give it's treat on schedule...

Just crudded up. I was able to pull it apart with resorting to the press (like some). I think it just needs a good clean, polish and lube.

Front caliper was just “sticking from sitting”. Pulled out the new pad, cleaned the edges, scraped out some fuzz and pumped the piston 3/4  out and pushed it back by hand. Cleaned/blew out all the corners and it’s sliding freely. Once it’s back together, will pull in fresh fluid. Seems all OK. The steel line is scruffy, I think I have a new one somewhere…….

She loves going down there with me but usually after an hour she’s had eneough! She turned 4 a few days ago, but still a lot of pup in there.

Spent some time cleaning bits today. Front end goes back together next. The brake swivel pin cleaned up well. Fresh, thin coat of MolySlip and all good. For some reason, this bike has a brand new HONDA front fender. I think I may swap it with another and save it.

Got a short time in the shop this aft. The front end is 1/2 back together. Fender and brake are all back in place, wheel next time. Need to spin it back around on the table and start prepping for an engine install. I found a new metal brake pipe in my stuff, so will change that out before bleeding in some fresh fluid. Had success cleaning out the front caliper, I can now easily push the pad fully home, manually. Checked my notes and I completely rebuilt both the master and the caliper +7 years ago and the bike has covered 28 miles since!

Finished up the front end today. Went together nicely. The front brake is free and works perfectly, with new pads. When I bleed in fresh fluid I will swap in the new metal pipe I found. Next steps will include the battery box, wiring and a clean oil tank. Not likely to pick up the engine until after Christmas but still plenty to do. Fresh spokes and a clean rim are still the cheapest way to make a huge appearance improvement! The new front fender helps.

Den….. That’s correct. I set the stand up on a level spot and do it while working on something else. The stand has two really excellent sets of bearings that drag far less than the wheel bearings. It also makes truing the wheel easier. You should buy yourself a Christmas gift!

First I confirm the low spot repeats, by marking with a small piece of tape (see photo). Occasionally, it won’t , which means, no weights. Otherwise I start with a 1/4 oz. taped opposite. Play around adding until the wheel starts stopping in different spots and then “peel and stick”. Using the stick ons, I apply them evenly to both sides in the spoke “hump”. If there is an odd number required, the extra one goes opposite to the disc or drive sprocket……

Your wheels look great, did you get new rims? All the best for Christmas and the New Year.

Seven year old brake fluid came out, replaced with a freshly opened tin. Also subbed in a new metal brake pipe I found in one of my bins. Cleaned up around the master cylinder and everything looks good. Rewarded with a really firm lever. I suspect the next few days will be devoted to last minute Christmas stuff.
