I got back to doing some more cleaning, worked on the rear wheel. There was some rust on the rim, decided to try using a brass brush. It turned out well getting most of the pitting out without scratching the chrome rim. Eventually I will replace with new spokes and maybe the rim too.
The chain and rear sprocket are toast. Used the angle grinder and cut the original chain off(11,000 miles)
I cleaned up the shocks the same way.(I didn't get pictures of them)
But I've got a busted shock mount to repair, from the aftermarket shock mount extenders for the saddlebags that weren't properly tapped from the beginning and had seized to the mount threads..... I remember they were a problem back in the 70s. The other side came off working the extender back and forth using lots of PB Blaster between strokes, but this one bit the dust right away......oh the joys of rusted, improperly made parts.
Anyone have a source for a replacement stud, size?
My package arrived from VintageCB750 yesterday with the new plain points cover, clutch cover, starter cover and a pack of oil filter washers(so I can put fresh oil in to fire it up as next step). I'm liking the way these covers look so far.
