Dennis….. looking great. If you’re missing a wrench, it’s in there behind the brake pedal switch!

Lol, there as a reminder to tighten the bolt after installing battery box.

Brilliant. I have a small bag of yellow zip ties I use for just that. If something isn’t completely done at the end of the day, it always gets a zip tie.

Nothing really to report.

I've been troubleshooting some electrical issues (left front turn signal), but got it fixed this morning.

Received a new battery (Scorpion) and it lasted about 30 secs in short bursts; with plugs out (trying to get oil pressure before start).

So now going through testing process of battery to see if I need a replacement, will be charging most of the day going through Batterystuff's testing procedure.

May try to add gas tomorrow and see if I can at least kickstart.

After performing the vendor's test, and reporting the values, they are sending me a new battery.

Some results of testing:

1st starting voltage: 12.4v on bench
2nd voltage reading: 12.74v after 8 hour charge and resting for 30 minutes on bench
3rd voltage reading:12.64v after sitting overnight ~ approximately 14 hours after charge, on bench
4th voltage reading: installed battery in bike, 11.7v just turning key on, with headlight on and 2 running lights on; 6.5v when I hit the starter button.

Think it will kickstart like this?

Back in the day when our bikes sat outside all winter we got 2 years tops out of a battery. The final portion of the second year often we had to kick start. At the very end sitting idling with headlight on the bike would quit if you put on the brakes and made the brake light come on. So IMHO if you unplug the headlight I bet it will kick start.

Den….…. With that rapid a voltage drop, it won’t start. If you need to try today, attach your lawn tractor or car with a set of booster cables to that battery…..

And remove the fuse for the headlamp. Eliminate all auxiliary voltage draws while troubleshooting.

Good point, will remove headlamp/tail lamp fuses with the new battery.

Completely irrelevant. The battery of the car will only discharge what is drawn from it. And the car battery is only storing 14.4v while being charged. That will not hurt the motorcycle battery as the current draw is still far less than what is available at the battery.
So you are stating that the alternator amperage output of the running car won't damage the bike electronics?

Yup. The output is what’s “available”. The consumption of the bike creates the “draw”. When your bike is running, it doesn’t draw more than the alternator can produce does it? And the Regulator toggles the output to the battery when there’s a deficiency, and shuts it down when there’s no need.

Just like your home. You’ve likely got 200amp panel, but about 600+ at the nearest transformer serving your home. By the referenced logic, that 600+ would flood the home and fry the electrical appliances and devices. But your home doesn’t draw that amount so the balance sits waiting.

Simple.

Thanks.

2nd new battery scheduled to be delivered mid week, so I started sanding the new side covers from Frankenstuff; drilled holes for badge placement.

Poured about 3.5 gallons of white vinegar into tank and let soak for about 3 days, emptied into a 5 gallon bucket to see what came out, pic below.

I then rinsed with a baking soda water mix, rinsed it out good, then used air hose to dry it out inside.  I am now soaking some Evaporust in the tank, only had about 2.5 quarts.  Will swish around and prop tank at different angles over the next few days.

I thought the tank looked good before I started, but did get some gunk out.

Exactly why you need to full the tank full. This picture is with a bore scope.

This is the top of the last tank I cleaned, electrolysis, followed up with Evaporust. Apparently I hadn't burped the tank when I filled it. I buy a 5 gallon bucket of Evaporust.

Newday, I have ordered some more Evaporust....do you rinse with anything afterwards, or just leave the Evaporust film in there before putting in gas?

I plan to paint the tank after cleaning the inside.

I usually splash a 50/50 mix of two stroke oil and gas around and drain. 1 pint is lots if you give it a good shake.

I don't think I want any gas vapors in there while sanding and prepping tank for paint, so will coat inside with some 2 stroke oil.

I rinse with fresh diesel fuel, 1-2 quarts, shake lots to capture moisture of the Evaporust, dump into empty 5 gallon bucket to recycle, do this 4 times. Then coat the tank insides with 6 oz 2 stroke oil to preserve the tank. Dump out excess when you are ready to put it into service.

First coat of primer on side covers, started on tank.

Sanding with 80 grit was a very slow go trying to get decals off, so resorted to a chemical affair and got them off.  Lots more sanding to go...

Used the Klean Strip aircraft paint stripper.

Edit to add the color I am going with:
https://www.66autocolor.com/products/house-of-kolor-k462-bermuda-triangle

Ordered decals from: https://cbdecals.afegraphics.com/view_product.php?adminshopping=&product=76cb550k-TNKT-CB00240

Make sure when you paint the tank, leave the top of the filler neck bare metal. Fuel vapors will cause the paint to peel if you paint the rolled edge. Stop your paint on the outside, right at the bottom of the rolled edge. Your paint will last decades as a result.

Thanks for the tip, I was wondering about that.

Finished stripping the paint, sanded with 100 grit and then 220 grit with palm sander.

Need to finish up going around the edges by hand, that can't wait another day or so.

Tried to use a c-clamp and a 6 penny nail to push the cap pin through, but the nail just bent , also need another pairs of hands to help hold.
