Guess I'm Confused
« on: November 15, 2023, 08:49:58 AM »
In an earlier thread I asked about the process involved in removal/replacement of the alternator-stator cover on my 1978 750F.  Just when I thought I had it, I began to question if there are screws INSIDE the cover that need removal for the process. Thought it was just a reducer gear, washer and dowel pin. Thank you for any and all responses.

The inner magnet screws are on outside.
The stator screws are on inside.

Loosen the three screws on the centre, before removing the cover. They don’t need to be removed to get the cover off but it’s so much easier with the cover secure to the engine!

What Benelli said. Plus, on reassembly, wrap some tape around the ends of the field magnet bobbin and screw it onto the cover loosely. Install the cover with a screw or two (locating it on the dowels) then tighten the coil screws. There's some play in those screws and the coil is a tight fit in the rotor. Take the cover off, remove the tape, and the rotor won't scrape on the coil.
