Nanaimo-Tofino Group run, Photo essay
« on: May 28, 2007, 10:19:22 AM »
Woke up at 6:30 am, have to catch the 7:55 ferry, trying to get a coffee before we leave.

Kathleen in the Kitchen

Me outside getting the bikes started, looking far to good for that early in the morning ;D

Kathleen on the Ferry still waking up :o

8:45 at the Honda Dealership getting signed in.

1st Stop in Coombs.

Nice shot facing West at Sproat Lake

Bikes at same place.

A bit of hwy wildlife :o Story here..... I pull over, Kathleen pulls in just ahead of me. She forgets to shift down to 1st at her stop and then realises there is a Frickin BEAR right across the road from her."she's on a hill in 5th gear"!!!!!!  After a bit of frantic trying and me helpping shift her bike back to 1st..and a couple of frustrated tears on her part she gets going again. Mean while I realize there is a FRICIN BEAR 40 ft from me!!!!!  What the hell was I thinking, this this was 500-700 lbs. Biggest Blacky I've ever seen.  Oh well I'm here now take a few photos and carry on our way.  I am not showing the 3 bluurry photos. I was shaking a bit ;D

Another rest stop just before lunch.

The Cove at Toffino

Lunch Break at Toffino

View Point at Radar Hill. This was a radar look out during WW2

Now we get to the famous Long Beach ;D

Kathleen proceeds to fall asleep and I took a bit of a walk. Notice it's still SUNNY......

Beautiful

On the way home it POURED!!!!!!!! I mean bounce off the road, smack the helmet RAIN!!!!!!!
Stop for gas and a drip off.

All in all....FUN, a bit to far for 1 day ride. Certainly Kathleens longest and she did great. Her 1st rain experience, and some of you from around here will testify that this is one hell of a challenging 2 lane twisty road! One of the Honda employees crashed, and another guy had his foot board removed by a truck crossing the line with its TIRE!!!!!!!

Hope you enjoyed the show ;D

Good for you Kathleen! Bears, rain, trucks crossing the line - just another day on the West Coast! Great pictures.
How's the Tracy coming along Derek?

Still looks like this. Waiting on a lightend fly wheel from Cycle Exchange to finish the 836 build.

Awesome, looks like she went along, hope she enjoyed it!

And that frame... is it chromed?
Looks like it will make quite the 'bike.

FANTASTIC day! I had hoped to be up your way on our annual ride this year. Looks like I'll be missing a lot. Looks like we'll be taking a left at San Francisco rather than a right. Hopefully next year.
