Zero feedback bidders on Ebay-What is your experience?
« on: March 15, 2007, 03:39:54 PM »

I have my 1992 Sportster for sale on Ebay (I am keeping my K5) on a 10 day auction.  With 8 days left on the auction, a zero feedback bidder bid it up to the reserve price.  Not only does the zero feedback throw up a red flag, but the fact that they bid it up with 8 days left also does. I have since added a statement about zero feedback bidders emailing me before they bid (I should have done this right away).
Anyways, this bidder concerns me and I am wondering what your experiences are with zero feedback bidders.  Should I do nothing, cancel their bid, or try to contact the person to see what their deal is and cancel their bid if they don't reply?  I have seen quite a few bikes on Ebay that were relisted because the buyer didn't pay and I don't want this to happen to me.

Email the dude and see what his reply is. You never know w/ 0 feedback; you gotta start somewhere. I've had mixed results.

I agree. Contact the potential buyer; maybe get a phone number and give a call to see where he/she is coming from with their interest in the bike.

My experience with low/no feedback eBayers has been positive so far, but then again that has been with small ticket items...

Same with me. Some of them would never pay, but as the final price was low I just claimed a fee return and didn't even give a negative. With the rest everything went fine; they ended up paying but needed some "help", being supportive with their lack of information, explaining how to pay, trying to show you are a confidence person regardless of your number of votes, assuring they will get the article fast and well packaged. I just remembered how would I have liked to be treated in my first transactions; then it's easy to do.

You can contact him and see what your gut says. I have had real bad luck with Aholes on ebay motors on vehicle. Parts I did well with. You can set you auction so that it will block zero feedback bidders, that makes them contact you. In fact all of the SS Chevelles we "sold" on eBay people would show up with short money and stick it in your face and tell you to take it or leave it. We were contacted by a Muscle Car Dealer in the MidWest who sent a full sized car carrier over and bought 5 cars at our asking price and paid cash. Hopefully it will work out for you.

My experience is the same as Raul's.
Only been burnt 2 times on ebay (of 500+ transactions)
and both of them had more than 0 feedback.
contact the bidder, and go from there.
