Hello from Melbourne, Australia
« on: November 24, 2023, 05:42:25 PM »
Hello all, I'm new to the forum.

I'm in my 60's and rebuilding a 1975 Honda CB400F that was in pieces in my shed for many years, now a retirement project.  I have no formal mechanical skills but I'm slowly getting there although the wiring part terrifies me.  I've had the bike since the late 1980's and had never heard it run.  I stripped the engine down to empty cases and rebuilt it.  After making rudimentary settings to ignition, carbs and valves etc it fired up first time which amazed me.  I'm looking forward to getting the bike finished and giving it a second shot at life after years of neglect.

Very happy to be part of the forum.

John.

Thanks mate, it's come a very long way from a pile of rusting pieces to where it is now but still got a ways to go.

Welcome aboard the forum John.
It is a good feeling when it fires up after working on a long term project. Congrats on your retirement and getting it going.
Go the the project shop section and start a new topic on it's start to finish.  Include pictures so all can follow the progress. You can ask questions in that thread and keep all the information together.

Thanks mate.  You're absolutely right, it's a great feeling when the engine fires up after you've had it in a million pieces.  I'll get onto the project shop section and post some photos.  Thanks for the heads up.

John.

hi from reservoir, well done on getting the bike to fire first time

theres a bikes only swapmeet at Llanelly this weekend ( sort of near maryborough i think ) which has a good reputation for older jap bike stuff ( as well as brit and harley stuff but we don't need to worry about that )

terry ( who's also on this fine forum ) and i will have a stall there selling off some of his hoard of 750 and Z900 stuff, stop by and say hi if you make it, kicks off at daybreak which is about when we'll get there
i blame Terry

Welcome to the fun, and great congratulations on getting it to run again!
That's a terrific bike, a real canyon-racer. Here in Colorado you'll see them, a single rider by himself, ripping thru the canyons and mountain roads. There's a bunch of them (and hopped-up 350F versions) around here.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Thanks everyone,
I'm already feeling the 'community' in the forum.  I'll get some photos of my restoration onto the projects section as soon as I can.  Looking forward to sharing and learning.
