My lightened K6 alternator have no charging issues.
The only issues when connectors were loose, corroded and regulator not properly adjusted.
I (more or less) constantly watch the voltage while riding since a few years.
It look like this, here compared with a stock late.
About broken crank.
Can the alternator been loose when the bolt is not properly tightened?
I have heard about alternator/starter gear come loose when start with a weak battery, a kick back cause bolt to become loose. Alternator/starter gear rattle around.
My shop that lightened it 1983 used blue Loctite on the bolt.
I noticed that when I changed crank to an APE.
I had to buy a cheap electrical impact wrench for car wheel nuts/bolts to get the bolt off.
Loctite when fasten it on the APE crank.
