Broken Speedometer Stud
« on: November 17, 2023, 10:15:19 AM »
Any ideas on how to repair this or does the unit need to be disassembled? Speedometer works well. Thanks.

The studs are pressed in so you would need to disassemble the speedo to remove it. You could drill it out and replace it with a bolt but the reason the stud is pressed in is so you can tighten the nut without the stud spinning - could be a problem with a bolt though.

It looks like there might be enough left there to get a threaded sleeve onto, which could be held in place by a good quality retainer like Loctite 648 or similar adhesive. You've nothing to lose by trying it.

Tack weld new bolt or threaded rod in place or use epoxy

Maybe cut it flush and drill and tap and screw in a new threaded insert with a little JB Weld to keep it from spinning if the pressed in collar is holding firm. How easy I wonder does that fitted piece come out. Maybe remover and exopy in another from a junk set of gauges. Just spitballin' here.

Was able to thread the nub, so will get a threaded sleeve and a short piece of 6mm threaded rod and see what happens.

Used a 15 mm threaded sleeve with a short piece of 6mm barstock with a dab of red locktite on both sides and all is well.
