Another Road Trip
« on: December 05, 2023, 12:47:01 PM »
When I went to pick up the Varadero, a few months ago, I had to borrow a friend’s trailer. My old steel, 4’ X 8’ utility trailer is done. It’s +25 years old and I can poke a screwdriver through almost any part of the main rails. All that’s holding it together are the 2” X 6” PT planks I replaced the floor with, ten years ago. On the main tongue tube, one of the  2” X 2” angle iron V braces has mysteriously disappeared! I’m afraid the next time this trailer makes a “dump run” it will stay at the dump……

Yesterday I spotted an almost identical unit on KIJIJI. It’s fully galvanized, full LED lighting, with a nice ramp tailgate. Looks like it has a spare tire mounted too. The ad says; “never use it, want it gone”. Only 122 kilometres (75 miles) away, so going to have a look in the am. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Stu! The guy is asking Cdn$1400 (less than 1/2 the price of new). It’s also identical to my rusted out trailer, so theoretically I can slap my lic. plate on it and then visit the DMV: “Gosh……  I repaired my trailer and painted it silver”. $2 for a colour change on my ownership.

Awesome! A $2 paint job  ;)
We like to put some strips of thin aluminium around the hinge pins so the tailgate doesn't rattle going down the road.

I really miss mine. My 61 GMC is lowered but a utility trailer would be so much better to load stuff into and out of.

Thanks guys. The galvanizing is interesting. Apparently they take the entire trailer (less springs, axle and wheels/tires) and dip it after all the fabrication and welding is complete. I’ll have a closer look today. The guy said he would be home this morning, but then didn’t answer my notes yesterday. I hope I’m not chasing a shadow!

Well…. I got scammed. Nobody home and property looks nothing like the photo ads. No trailer around or in the garage. Bunch of mail stuffed in the front door, so people appear to be away.

Repeated messages to the guy, no response. What pleasure do people take in this? Would love to meet the guy. Up close.

What a turd. Hopefully you didn’t send him a deposit? I took some Army Signal antenna sections to a galvanising company years ago, they were doing Caravan chassis, they used a crane to lower the entire chassis into the bath and pulled them out while I was there, went in bare metal and came out shiny silver.  ;
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

 Maybe the Canadian DMV caught wind of your registration caper, and shut it down!😬 Better keep a watch over your sholder until the heat is off. 🙈🙉🙊🥸

No deposit was asked for. There really is no scam. Just an arshole.

Hey….. First time I’ve been scammed and I had my suspicions driving out. Nice find for you. Congrats!
