I have rattling at an idle. Pull the clutch lever in and it goes away.

Accentuated by the “dry sump” on the cb750. On a 550 you don’t hear as much because the housing is full of oil. Try a tune up and carb sync FIRST.

As an aside: what I find stops clutch chatter (at idle) the most is a full tune up and a really accurate carb sync.

I may be overly concerned. It's just that I built the motor after buying it and it's such a great looking motorcycle I just want it to run as one would expect a new 1975 bike should run. I've balanced the carbs and my next thing will be the timing and points.

If using stock points, cut the advancer springs ca 1/2 wound will make idle more stable.
Cut off the loop that fasten it on the tower.
Bend up a new loop with a plier or 2.
I had to do that on both my CB750 when using points to get ignition correct.
One bike had too sloppy springs so it advanced ignition way too early.
The other when plate could not retard enough for ignition to line up. Just 1mm off.

Both have Dyna-S now.
Still with cut springs to get ignition ok from idle and up.

Did you replace the primary chains…?

Yes everything in the motor was replaced. I reset the points and timing was a little off. I'll fire it up soon to see if that makes much of a difference.
