'75 CB550F Spikey...bike
« on: March 15, 2007, 08:38:10 PM »
well  its finally done 8 years later . 1part cafe, 3parts psycobilly ,2parts resto, shake it all up ,add spikes and leather for garnish

when i got this 75 cb550F 8 years ago it was totally perfect, orange flake, nice chrome ....i had it just over a month and my buddy wrecked it
...front end was all twisted up, every piece of glass was smashed, and the lower block case was cracked in two places.
if you think thats bad you should have seen my buddy.
This happened while i was in college for welding so i went a little overboard with some of the fab work, because i could.
so here is a basic rundown of the major stuff:
it has a megacycle hardfaced mild cam and rocker arms, megacycle valve springs
new pistos and rings (std size) ,barrnet clutch
mac exhaust, el cheapo pods (saving up for k&ns,and emgo's dont fit the f )
carbs rebuilt w/110 mains 40 slows needle clip second from the bottom
update: the slow jets were returned to stock, way to rich at idle
the frame support under the seat was moved forward 4" the rear fender moved forward 2"
shorty shocks lowered the rear 1 1/2" ,all of the visable welds on the frame were ground smooth
the taillight/plate mount is all hand fabed with simple tools i.e. a ball peen hammer and a welder, and that was for me the hardest part to get right.
center stand removed ,i put a stash tube in the mount for paperwork,
the chain guard is actualy the end of the original guard (welded a bolt to the frame)
new wheels and spokes (david silver) dunlop404's  way too many polished parts to name (polishing hubs sucks)
the front end is mostly cb550 from several parts bikes (junk yard)
the gauges are from some other late 70s early 80s honda (swapmeet)
i liked them cause the were a little smaller and black

Update:the gauges are not very acurate ,the tach is off by about 1 and a half  rpm at idle (timeing light) not sure how off the speedo is but at high speeds (70+) they bounce like crazy

the ignition switch was moved to the crotch area, as was the start button
and the start button on the handlebar was shaved

lots of blood sweat and tears this one guys
sorry it took 8 years

im working on a gallery so you can see all the little details

the fabric was a table cloth, it has a plastic liner on the back and i scotch guarded the hell out of it,
the mac exhaust fits good but like any exhaust you have to get it staight and totaly assembled before you tighten the flanges (i went through two sets of gasket getting it right)

thanks to all for the compliments, pretty much all of the motorcycle comunity in my area is a bunch of harley guys that just throw insults and gay jokes, man that gets old.

Your filters look like some I have seen for sale on e-bay.....are you not happy with them or??

I have the uni-pods....they are a little messy with the spray on oil but so far (short far  ;) ) they seem to be fine.   I agree those K&N's are expensive!

Good news is you won't see another one just like it coming down the road at you.   ;) ;D

Kind of curious how you plan to wash the bike?

When you get a chance post some pics of it outside in the sunlight.

WOW Spikeybike :o ;D :o ;D

Man, where do I start???  Absolutely phenomenal!!!  It's not only the overall bike but the attention to details, and that shows.  There are some guys that I know that have a mid-50's Buick rat rod; they decked out the seats with leopard print and it rocks.  I'm usually a fan of subtle, and I think your bike rocks!!!  I live in Milwaukee, so I can appreciate some of the (insecure) Harley crowd who just jeer because it's not a Harley.  Which for me anyways IS the point!  Well done!  Keep building them, showing them off.  You've inspired me and my project.  BTW, is that Chevy Orange on the lower portion of the engine block?

Way Cool!

i think if i saw another one on the road , first i would sh#@ a brick, then i would throw insults and gay jokes  ;)
washing it is not as hard as i thought it would be , just like shampooing the carpet in your car
i have been meaning to take some daylight pics , should be easyer now that daylight saveings has sprung up (i dont get home from work till 5:30 then i gotta feed the kid, play w/him  etc. you know it is )
BTW, is that Chevy Orange on the lower portion of the engine block?

speaking of daylight pics .. with the lighting in my garage, plus the flash of the camera.. makes my dupli-color RED look bright orange
man i gotta get that done

thanx again for all the complaments..  my bike has ALOT of heart and sole in it, it is like another child to me (i used to its like my son and then i actually had a son, now i cant say that)

sorry to resurrect this thread but i'm linking it to my signature and wanted to put some daylight pics of the bike in here

also after reading many post about how dangerous it is to run no chain guard, i fabed one up. and when doug_id beat me in BOTM it inspired me to get a headlight visor. props again to doug.
still haven't changed the seat yet, i got to many projects in my garage.
