The plugs looked darker than expected so I left the jets as is for now.
I decided to work with my "new to me" tool set off of ebay. The plug socket was wrong so I got a Honda tool out of the tool stash and then realized that there was no way to turn one of the screwdriver bits so I borrowed a plastic handle out of the GL1000 kit.
While ordering new tank rubbers, I saw that Partzilla has a lot of the tool bags listed so if I was starting over I'd figure out which number it needs and get a new one. Actually, the Ebay tool bag appears new so it may have been cherry picked and then re-sold for what it cost. L0L!
The bike had a Kawasaki looking tank rubber that I tossed thinking it had to do with the 29's not clearing the petcock. Now I see there were two on the bike originally and they are no longer available. I may have a look at kawasaki parts to see if I can find something.

My nephew printed me oval shaped tank mounts with the peg hole offset to one end for my KZ 1000 so the tank doesn't go too far forward and hit the petcock on the RS 34's. I think they were 10mm longer. The rear tank mount is a big rubber band so the tank will move some but now it doesn't.

It looked like this Kawasaki tank damper. Dang, I could have added them to my Suzuki order.

My RS36's are sitting pretty level, I wondered today if they should angle up towards the rear a little?  Would make jetting room also.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the two at the front of the tank. The KZ 1000 and the GS 1100 both use the same one as you posted on Partzilla on the frame tubes at the rear of the tank. Our GS 1100 has the RS 36's tilted up at the rear a little bit. Did you make a support for the rear of the carbs?

I have a double cable tie supporting the carbs from the frame at this time, something more substantial is in order and also a little rotation of the carb rubbers. Some offset front mounts could come in handy on a CB also, I had to shave a couple to fit my CB with a fibermold tank.
I was going to haul it to a car show at the drag strip tomorrow but once it was on my brother's lawn mower trailer, it didn't seem stable so I'm leaving the bikes at home. The GS seems so much bigger up on the trailer and it was sinking through the expanded metal floor.

The engine is a heavy beast on it.

I was looking at the CycleX page again and to get the CB dragbike engine going again I'd spend about what I have in the GS1100.

I have three amazing prospects for a custom go fasty cb750 but they all need $$$.
The Rat Race, it's running but needs a fresh 836 kit and all of the chains replaced. That one is ongoing for this winter with a low mile K6 case, F2 backcut transmission, German chains, Cycle X tensioners (cheaper ones) and the RC parts off of that bike.
The turbo bike can go together with an 8,000 mile F2 motor but I bought it cheap with the cylinder off so it needs the cases split, cleaned out, and new rings, the head needs guides and beehive springs but I have the kibblewhite valves.
The 1124 stroker needs a new case, pistons and cylinder.
The Firebird wants a new body too. L0L!

This is physical therapy for me I can't just retire and sit, I have to keep moving. To me the bikes are a form of art. I can't draw or paint, so this is my expression.
I'm also not saying they will ever get done.

I agree, this is physical therapy for me too. Working on the bikes is currently bringing me back from my recent second round of radiation. It worked 8 years ago and it's working again. I'm back up to about 3 days a week in the shop. By spring I should be back up to 6 to 7 days a week.

I also love working on bikes and it's a type of therapy for me;don't want to ever 'retire' from it  ;)
I have been struggling out in the parking lot here;it's a 'weird scene' w/ no privacy but 'prying eyes' who sometimes report me to the manager.

I bought a new 81 GS11e gauge cluster, in theory the gas gauge and the odometer both work, I'd settle for either. The housing looks great and no apparent cracks in the lenses.
I'm going to add a plug in and temporary mount for a GPS speedo for testing use. I didn't buy the kilometer speedo from marketplace although the non-85 mph part would be good, it didn't have any mph marks on the face.
If I come across a proper painted rear cowl, I might spring for one of those too, the one on my bike has a nasty amount of orange peel.

Don,I'm glad you bought a working gauge cluster? I had to return the one I ordered for my 81' Suzuki because the trip meter drive was damaged inside,
I would like to find a 1983' speedometer meter to install into the breadbox I already have;1983' was when they removed the 85MPH-only speedometer & went back to the standard model.

Edit: I got the new rubber tank cushions from partzilla, just the front and rear round ones that fit over the bolt and the pad it sits on.

I rode to reserve again, this time it took 3.5 gallons to fill it up. Soon I'll have a resettable odometer and maybe the gas gauge will read better, now it's half at full and goes down fast from there. The bike is getting about 40mpg.
I noticed today it's reading 3/4 when full, that's an improvement.

I got the replacement speedometer pod and the odometer in it appears to not re-set either. I assume it's "push the button" to re-zero it right?

I've googled and searched; it appears I'm the GS odometer repair pioneer. I plan to swap to my better-looking panel and then take the old one apart to see if I can fix anything that's just stuck or if internal parts are broken.

I fiddled with the old trip set two days ago and today I noticed it reads 14.5 miles. That's the trip to my buddy's house and back. With any luck, this thing will continue to become a happy machine. If I could only repeat it, maybe re-set while moving.

Does the rubber-booted small button have a good connection to the reset mech. ?
