Kevin
Those pictures show how great a day it was. Just gorgeous!
That last picture reminds me of northern Vermont back in the late 1960s of a horseback ride I had as a kid on a dirt road in Maple Corner(north of Montpellier). The memories it jogged the brain into......
Thanks for taking them and taking us along on the ride.

Yes, it was a good ride and a good day. For each photo, I made a U-turn and circled back to the site of the picture. I have driven past those road signs many times, only recently have I realized what they mean is that I am at the nicest place on my route. There is a herd of deer feeding in the bottom below the Natural Beauty sign, I don’t believe my phone cam picked them up.
I thought about going back out today to the Portage Lake Parlor for some brisket or ribs, maybe next time.

Jim, the awards are right in that box over there, just out of my reach, and I won’t touch them until I have earned it…. I’m on the homestretch now.
I have to find more space on the green highway sign, it’s hard to know how many will finish.

I got a short 56 miles for ride #31.

Tonight was an experiment,  both in riding and picture taking. I got new glasses after 4 years and wanted to see if they helped while riding at night, and the did, a bunch! My old glasses were so scratched up it was like getting hit in the face with a snowball when looking into oncoming traffic. Not no more, I just might start enjoying night riding again!

I took off around 7:30  and it was still 88° f and headed for my normal short ride on Ortega hwy. I thought maybe I could get some pictures of the aftermath of a couple of recient fires, but I got out too late. But the first pic is a distance shot of the fire fron a few weeks ago, I mentioned that in a previous ride report. Anyhoo I stopped at the Lookout and got some evening pics of Lake Elsinore, then headed for the rest ares/trail head to watch it get dark, pretty exciting, huh. I tried ti get some sky pics, but it is a bit hard with a phone, oh well.

After that Eeyore and me headed for home and the mountian temps had cooled down to 70°f . Then back up to about 79°f when I got home around 9:45. I would sure like it to cool a bit so I can get some day a day distance rides in. Oh well, pretty soon I'll be whining about how cold it is, it is what it is!

It was a great ride with my new found vision though. Sorry I'm being lazy and not doing the temp conversions and km comparison this time, but I did get some pics.

Ride #21   166 miles

I went back for the brisket sandwich and took my Beemer Buddy Jim.
The smoker was working hard and the sandwich was a knockout.
That was a knife and fork sandwich, no way was I going to pick it up.
I ate a slice or two before I thought to take the photo.
We took a break at the park in Saline, heading for Sharon Valley.
At Napoleon we watched a load of skydivers takeoff, ascend to 14000ft, jump, return to earth.
The sun was directly overhead and we couldn’t see the entire flight.
There were a couple novices that clipped on the front of experienced skydivers.
I think Jim would have jumped if I did, but no thanks
It’s about $300 for a first jump + $120 for a video.

The Honda used 3.47g today for the 166 miles yielding 47.8mpg.
It didn’t go on reserve. It must have been very close.

Great pics and rides everyone! Kevin, you made the right decision re: paying someone to throw you out of an airplane, I did it for a living and after breaking my back, the VA gave me some money, a pension, and free medical. No-one with half a brain jumps out of an airplane on purpose, and most of the people who start parachuting companies are cowboys with poor training and bad safety records. The army wasn't any safer really, but at least once you got busted, they (eventually) pay you out. That sandwich looks magnificent too!

Anyhoo, today the weather was fantastic, and as Spotty was off buying himself birthday presents, (happy birthday mate!) was the ideal opportunity to take the white BMW for a ride. I'm happy to report that for the first time in 3 rides on this bike this year, I didn't come home in a tow truck! I stayed on main roads (to make it easier for tow trucks to find me) today, but had a great ride, the sun was shining, and the BMW was just purring along. I didn't stop for food as the wife was bringing me home some Indian "Butter Chicken" and rice, on Roti bread, which I had for a later brunch at 3pm. All in all I was both surprised that nothing broke or fell off, and keeping an eye on the temp gauge, oil pressure light and voltmeter, all is good. I suspect that the electric thermo fan is boogered as it didn't come on at all when it should have, and felt a bit stiff when I turned it a couple of weeks ago, so I'll have to buy another one.

I did stop for a smoke though, so took a couple of pics:

BMW K100 RS SE shakedown ride 10 August 2024 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Tomorrow Spotty and I are going to recue my K0. It's been sitting much too long, so we'll pull the engine to repair some oil leaks (cam cover and alternator cover) fix the ignition, and install the Yamiya 4 into 4 exhaust that I've been tripping over from months ago. With luck I'll be doing ride #27 or #28 (can't remember) on a Honda 750! Woohoo! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hey Dennis, I pulled these photos out of the thread and blended them together. You have a very nice lineup of motorcycles. Hope you like this.

Thanks Kevin, it's beautiful.  You are getting very good at putting together these images!  Do you think I might have a thing for silver bikes...  lol

Thanks again!

You will regret the bikes you DIDN'T buy much more than the ones you DID!!!  It's never too late to start a new adventure!

How did I miss Blue?

Here’s a preliminary effort, including Blue!
I had to start over to add the details to the roadsign.
Blue must have been out for a ride at the final effort.

Ride #36, 384 miles...dubbed The Great Texas Butterfly Massacre of 2024.

Been hot all week, 100F hot.  We had a little rain yesterday evening.  The guessers were saying a high of 92F for today.  I can handle that.  I had my sights on another ride around the Three Brothers Loop.  The guessers were saying high of 102F in Brackettville, but late in the afternoon.  I calculated that if I could get down there by noon, I would be alright.

I got up early and made myself a big breakfast taco and hit the road at 7:30.  My first stop was west of Mountain Home at the little country store to visit the chickens and have a little coffee.  Looks like they got a couple of new fellows to help out with the greetings.  Second stop was at the Three Sisters Memorial tree again.  Always gotta stop for a pic when I'm riding past it.

I made it to Rocksprings, tanked up, snapped a pic of the courthouse and took off on the Three Brothers Loop but this time in the opposite direction.  Everything was cool.  I had the road to myself, until a few miles just south of the Kickapoo State Park.  The butterflies came out of nowhere by the thousands.  I had to ride most of the last 25 miles to Brackettville with my left hand in front of my helmet, just peeking over the tops of my fingers to see the rode.  The splats were coming fast and hard.  I pulled over to clean my goggles a few miles north of Brackettville and noticed what looked like an entrance to some place across the road.  I rode the bike over there and it was the old entrance to the Alamo Village, where the John Wayne movie was filmed.  I mentioned it in my post on 7/7.  The old movie set had been kept intact and was a tourist attraction.  It closed in 2010...I think.  I could barely make out a few letters left on the sign.  Google Maps shows it from 2013 and it was still readable.  I was keeping an eye out for it on my way down, but just happened to stumble onto it.  Snapped a few pics and made it to Brackettville.  I tanked up again and got some peanuts and beef jerky.  Had a few pieces of jerky and some water and saved the rest for later.  I left there as it was getting hot and I wanted to get away from the butterflies.

I kept getting slammed with butterflies riding on 334.  I got stopped at a temporary Border Patrol stop.  The officer could tell I wasn't an illegal.  He just asked me where I was going and said it looked like a nice day for a ride.  I said the butterflies were horrible and he agreed.  They kept coming and didn't stop until about five miles south of Campwood.  That's where the Three Brothers and Three Sisters overlap.  Saw a lot of bikes, but they weren't in any danger of butterflies as long as they weren't riding south.

I continued up to Rocksprings, where I started the brothers loop. I tanked up again and headed to Junction.  Stopped at the river park where I had my beef jerky and peanuts, along with an apple I brought with me.  Lots of flies.  Ate quickly and left.  Tanked up one last time in Harper and made it home.  It was a great ride except for the butterflies.  I suspect they'll be getting closer by the day.  I'll just have to wait it out.  Seems a little early this year.  They were bad in '22, but it was late September.

Kevin, the brisket looks great.  I have one in the fridge.  I'm firing up the smoker early on Monday morning, before I wash the Scout.

#16 today was 124 miles.
Met up with Andy S, he rode his K2(dressed as a K4) up from Boston, @12:45-1:00 at the New England Norton Riders monthly meeting and afterwards we all headed up to go to see my friend David Ross and his collection of bikes, David and his brothers were our local Norton Dealer and Seeley importer, race shop in the 60s, 70s and into the 80s. Some of the guys bought a few parts they needed. We all got the tour of his bikes and chatted for @ an hour and headed off our ways. David was blessed with the last minute visit. (I got a call this morning from Larry to see if we could stop by David's shop and an invite to the meeting,  David said yes he would meet us there) David is 90 now, I've known him since the mid 70s visiting him and his brothers and lusted for one of the Seeley frame kits for my K6 back then.
Andy and I headed up to my shop a few miles up the hill and talked of my projects and his bikes and trips he'd made over the years of being on the forum,  after about an hour we decided that we'd better get on the road for an abbreviated ride(last night Andy sent me a text to see if I was available for going on a ride today to enjoy the weather after Hurricane Debby moved out this morning, no destination or time restrictions. Definitely! Lets do it! The Norton meeting and David's shop visit was arranged in the mix this morning).
So we headed off to gas up Andy's bike and then up Rt 31N to Hancock,  then south on Rt 202 to Jaffrey to get something to eat at Kimble Farms. We had fish and chips in honor of Andy's Scottish heritage, finding a picnic table under the tall pines to enjoy the shade.
The final leg of our ride together took some back roads south through Rindge to pick up Rt 119 East so Andy could head home to his bride and daughter. We stopped in Townsend for some pictures of the bikes before I headed north on Rt 13 for home. I got back @ 6pm and Andy made it home by @ 7pm. Thanks for the invite Andy, it was a great day of riding and conversations with all!
Andy and I will get together for a longer fall ride in September or October.

David still has his 1965 Atlas the he and his girlfriend (soon to be wife) are pictured on. The Atlas still has the Tickle front brake scoop and trim on it bike, now it has a silver paint scheme. And David has a lot of silver too! He's still very sharp and has been getting the 75 Commando 850 Interstate running that I get to exercise as he can't ride now because of balance issues.

Bud, as you well know, one of the benefits of participating in this thread is finding a nice meal far from home. I usually go for convenience and carry on with the ride, but I brought my pal along and we made lunch a destination. There’s no place around here that serves brisket like that, and I’m not a grill master.

Several good rides done here lately!

I have done a few quick  90km rides, shortened rides due to angry dark clouds and sudden heavy rains I could escape from by the throttle.

Among all rides...
Terry on his now hopefully good working BMW. BMW's where the long tourers favourite many years ago.

Jim's windows to Californian sightseeing.

Kevin soon getting 24 rides too. A meaty lunch.

Budman's well documented ride as usual. I hope he left some insects for the wildlife living on them ;D It's a pain to remove all insects from the bike.
A front covering-all fairing that take them all, power wash to clean it.

That was an extra nice ride with a good story, Stu &Andy!

Yes Per I remember a few years ago he said it has the Maserati engine. He used to commute to Boston airport with it for years.

How did I miss Blue?

Here’s a preliminary effort, including Blue!
I had to start over to add the details to the roadsign.
Blue must have been out for a ride at the final effort.

Very nice Kevin, I love them both!  I haven't been riding much lately with the heat and not feeling well.  Go see the Doc on Thursday.  Blood work looks good prior to the Doc visit so maybe we'll be able to take a break from the injections....

Thanks again, I know Frank would be very pleased by all the efforts you, Terry, and Bud put into making this so enjoyable for us every year.

You will regret the bikes you DIDN'T buy much more than the ones you DID!!!  It's never too late to start a new adventure!

Norton's are pretty cool. We resurrected a 64' Atlas 750 for a friend a while back. The poor thing had been through 2 shops, one of them even stole and sold it. He found it and got it back a year later. We rewired it and repaired many things. It came out great, he called it the London Death Machine. Unfortunately he died from COVID a year after we finished the bike.

Well we finally made it to the house in Seal Cove, White Bay Newfoundland on Thursday around midnight to find that we had no tv, phone, internet or cell service so I have to drive down to the next town to the donut shop to talk to anybody! Should be resolved hopefully tomorrow. Rained on Friday and Saturday but yesterday was beautiful and we managed 157 km for #82 to Fleur de Lys. Work around the house today and only managed to ride to the donut shop to catch up.
