193 km for #96 to La Scie for a chicken dinner. One more week on the island and we drive home. Weather starting Thursday is supposed to get cold so have to get in a ride tomorrow.

Nice rides gents. Good weather makes for good riding.

Newday, you’re on the verge of completing 24.
After you complete #24, please PM me with your address, and I’ll send your award.
An awful lot of iron in that bridge. Is it still used for rail traffic?
How’s that apple pie holding out? Likely gone!

lash, I see lots of fishing boats in your photos, are all the boats
commercial fishing? Is there any charter fishing? whale watching? Excursion? Dinner cruise?

Went to Harbour Round today, 137 km for #97. There are so many beautiful little fishing villages and not enough time to see them all.
Kevin, all the big boats are working boats, some long liners, and then scallop, crab and lobster. These villages are all mainly fishing but some are mining and forestry.

The bridge is indeed used daily for freight and Amtrac.
The pie was finished this past weekend.

#28. Yesterday’s 12 miles on the Sandcast don’t count, but toady we went to Bridgenorth for lunch and put +100 miles on the K1. It’s been neglected for a while, but ran better than ever! Still my favourite. Beautiful weather here too.

#67, 76 miles. Ran CB500X over for the 4k oil change. I had cleaned and lubed the chain myself so as to keep the same juice in it between the visits to make sure my extended warranty is valid.

Ride #42, 55 miles.

Had to make a run to the Post Office, so it was a good opportunity to scuff up the new rear tire I installed yesterday.  Just the usual sites, but had to stop for a pic of this big boy.  He and his buddies were hanging out in some thick woods.  Must be hard to get around in that stuff with those horns.

Planning on a 400+ miler tomorrow.

Ride #28   121 miles     Home - Portage Lake - Home

This was a lunch run, and such a nice day I went past the basic lunch in Dexter (A&W), past the deluxe lunch in Chelsea (Mikes Deli), to the Supreme lunch from the smoker at the Portage Lake Parlor. I chose the chopped pork sandwich and didn’t think to take a photo until I was way on the downhill side of devouring it, along with the generous sides of slaw and beans and a couple hot pickle slices. The sandwich was bathed in homemade sauce, all delicious. Yum. It’s a good thing for my belly that PLP is 60 miles away.
It’s such a nice ride: North Territorial, Pontiac Trail, Huron River Drive, Dexter-Chelsea, Cavanaugh Lake, Clear Lake, Seymour/Trist, every mile is nice. I tried to pace the EB Amtrak for a bit, an unsuccessful attempt as the Wolverine was well past me before I began to roll, it’s so quiet I could not hear it coming with my helmet on and engine running. The static Chelsea fire engines were on display today and were much easier to capture but I should have parked my bike in the sun, not the shade.
The 60 miles outbound was so nice that I rode the same route home.

Sounds like the folks at the BBQ place may have spent some time in Texas.

Portage Lake Parlor , I think, is a one man show on the smokers. I don’t know his creds.

West Texas Barbeque is another 15 miles, on the south side of Jackson. Also mighty good, with some Texas amongst the founders at the start, and claiming some that have moved on, but learned their stuff at West Texas Barbeque. I haven’t been to Jackson/West Texas this year. The photo is from 2019.

What an interesting ride, Kevin!
I understand the same route back when it was that good.

I have my favourite routes I repeat  several times a week.

That meaty sandwich looks tasty and easy to eat. A real rider meal! ;D

David, I have never tasted gator, but it’s here on the menu in SWFL:  https://www.gatorbitesfortmyers.com/
I was told that fried gator is much like fried chicken.
This place went underwater during hurricane Ian but I believe it has recovered.

Per, Seymour road is my favorite, very light traffic, good asphalt, through state land, mostly undeveloped, and the location of Portage Lake Parlor.

A wet ride back from my sister's and Mom's after staying 12 days with Mom.
65 miles, 61°F high, low of 57°F at the end with mist to start near the coast of NH/Maine with a blast across the slab to get through the wet.
No pictures and no food stop as I had to get back to the post office to retrieve my mail 10 minutes before they closed at noon.

Ride #43, 485 miles.

Phew.  I'm tired.  This was the farthest north and west I've ridden since I've lived in the Hill Country, though I have ridden up in the northwest panhandle several times.  First time in this particular part of Texas.

I left at 7:30 this morning.  I got up early and made sure I had everything ready to go just after sunup.  I've been wanting to check out San Angelo, TX so that was pretty much the goal.  But I wanted to rack up some miles too, so I planned to continue on to Garden City, TX.

First stop was in Eden, TX for a fill up and some snacks for later on.  Had a few swigs of coffee from my thermos and kept heading for San Angelo.  Lots of wind farms started popping up just past Eden.  Rode past a solar farm too, but that was the only one saw.  Started see a lot more farm, farms...the kind that grow stuff.  Cotton seemed to be the preferred crop in this part of Texas.  Lots of wool buyers in this part of the state too.

I got to San Angelo and thought I was going to be taking a freeway through the city, but it was just the main drag through town with a lot of traffic lights.  San Angelo is the biggest town in this part of the state.  I guess you could say it's a small city.  Lots of fast-food joints, Walmarts, car dealers, etc. on the main drag.  There's an Airforce base there so I guess, besides all the oil, natural gas, wind stuff and the agriculture around it keeps the town active.

The terrain around this area was not entirely flat like I thought was going to be.  There were a few hill ranges here and there.  Some parts were dead flat, and that's where the farms were.  Not a lot of big hills and twisties.

I made another gas/coffee stop in Sterling City.  The abandoned church was right next to the gas station, so I got a quick pic.  Not a lot of pics on this trip.  I had to keep rolling.

Next stop was in Garden City where I started heading south again.  I passed the courthouse riding through the town, so I got a pic and one of the old jail.  As a turned south I hit a moderately strong headwind.  The wind was to my back on the way up.  I had to tuck in a little bit every now and then if I wanted to keep my speed up.  That first stretch was 47 miles due south right into it.  Lots of windfarms and oil pumps along this route.  Lots of high voltage towers with lines going in every direction, no doubt dispersing the electricity from the windmills.

I started heading east at Big Lake, TX.  Interesting name for a town, even though there's not even a small lake around there.  Big Lake seemed to be one of the hubs for all the energy production in the area.  Lots of energy support facilities on the edges of the town, with what looked like prison camps.  Rows and rows of small cabins, which are for the oil field workers and contractors to stay in.  I've heard you can make a ton of money as an oil field worker, but it's hot and cold depending on price and demand.

I stopped in Barnhart for more gas and carried on to Eldorado.  I rode through Eldorado for the first time back on 6/24 for ride #24.  Today I caught a glimpse of the courthouse and the old jail, so I stopped.  I was getting hungry and had been thinking about finding a place to stop.  There was a picnic table under a big pecan tree next to the old jail and nobody around.  Perfect!

After I ate my snacks I headed for Menard, where I made yet another stop for some gas.  I hit two gas stations.  The first one only sold 87 octane.  The Scout no likey 87.  It demands the good stuff, so I found another place.

I meandered through London, TX again, then to Harper and onto Fredericksburg for my last fill up, and then hit the last stretch for home.  I got home exhausted at about 4:15.

I only averaged about 40 mpg today.  80-85 mph most of the day and the headwinds weren't helping.

I think I'm ready for a 500 miler.

Nice Stu!  Congratulations.

I've had fried gator a few times in Texas and Louisiana.  I've never seen it barbequed.  It's usually served like fried popcorn nuggets.  Tastes like fishy chicken, but it's tougher and chewier.  I think it's all pretty much the lean tail meat.  I don't think there's much good meat on a gator past the tail.  I'm pretty sure the hide, the tail meat and the heads are the only parts worth anything on a gator.  They probably grind up the other stuff for animal food.

Thanks Kevin, Bud and David
It took longer than I had anticipated. In years past I would easily have had it done in a month or two at most without a blink of the eye. A month ago I looked at the wings mile log for this year and it was just over 4,000 miles 🤔, much lower than usual the past 3 years with no long distance touring rides put in..... I'm hoping to get a ride in to Florida to see the oldest son and his family and be back before snow sets in between here and there......
