Ohio and Indiana has some interesting architecture in city buildings, park structures, and even houses in some towns. Heck even photos of prisons would be a change of pace.
There is a few llama farms in Ohio and there is an ostrich farm up the road from me.
Quirky and unusual wins sometimes too...

Like Dr Seuss has said,
"You have to be odd to be number one!"

We have to find something to tide us through the periods we do not ride, be it other's adventures or talk of rides or maintenance or there things to keep our sanity during the dark cold day of winter or the blazing hot days of summer in the desert when it is a bit too hot to have a leg over for long...

Thinking about doing a search for the historical markers in the three states which I mostly ride in, OH, IN, and MI. There are 1750 in Ohio alone.

I happened across this one last summer.

I took a lot of small-town courthouse pics in '24.  Most had old jail houses on the corners of the town square, near the courthouses.  I snuck photos of them in too.

Willbird, heres your updated collection with a 96 ride sign. I could have gone out to I96 for that one, 96 is not too far from my front door. A US23 road sign was the inspiration for the road sign, maybe 20 miles away. Way too cold today, but it’s January in Michigan.

Bud, my grandpa worked for the county. I was too small to know what his job was. I was 3 or 4 maybe and he walked me through the courthouse then the jail. We were walking past the cells when a big bruising guy, he spent the night for fighting or drinking I don’t know, but he jumped right up and roared at me. I got a good hold on grandpa, I glued myself to the opposite wall, and decided right there I never wanted to see a jail again. Everybody laughed, except me.

I have 3 rides left over from 2024, thet are past the expiration date, but since not very many are riding, I am going to post them with a few pictures for you snow bound guys. I hope they hold you guys over until spring, so far Terry is the only one posting in the 25 thread. With a little luck I can do that tomorrow.

So here we go.........
   Ride # 38 for me.

This was my Thanksgiving ride, i like to ride out to where the Barstow to Vegas motorcycle race used to start and reminisce about my old Desert racing days. Plus I wanted to do a higher milage ride too. I also wanted to travel just a bit of Route 66, just because. So rather than taking the 15 frwy all the way into Barstow, I got off in Victorville to go to Oro Grande.  I got lost pretty quickly and had to back track a couple of times. I did find Norma Jean's restaurant,  which is supposed to be pretty good, but they were closed. I whizzed past the bottle tree ranch and with no good place to make a turn around I just kept going. As I went through Oro Grande it looked like the 2 main businesses were either a cement plant or a liquor store. There were 2 more small towns that were much more vibrant in days gone by, Helendade and Stoddard Wells. All those old towns have connections to either early railroad times or mining.

I got through Barstow heading to my imaginary destination and remembered seeing a place called Eddie World, it is kind of a modern version of most old time side stops along desert hiways, so I decided to check it out. The first thing you see is a giant ice cream cone for their sign. As it turns out it is the water tank/tower the fire department made them put in as a requirement to build the place, there isn't much water for firefighting in Yermo. There is something like 26 gas pumps plus 5 different restaurants  and a giant store inside. I walked around a bit and saw that they were extremely proud of the products, judging by the prices. I couldn't bring myself to pay $15 for a bag of nuts. It was getting late and I was and I still had a bunch of miles to go.

The last time I was out that way the traffic comming down Cajon Pass was nasty, and still is. So my plan was  Barstow road into Lucern Valley, then Old Woman Springs road into Yucca Valley, down to Whitewater and back home through San Bernardino.  That is alot of miles and I was starting to loose daylight. Old Woman Springs road is a nice ride during the day, not so much in the dark. The glare from oncoming traffic was so blinding that I couldn't see the lines on the road. I had to follow behind cars going my way you be able to stay on the road!  Made it into Yucca Valley and that nightmare was over. As I approached the 10 frwy I saw it was bumper to bumper as far as the eye could see, I dog paddled the 3 or 4 miles to the rest area to have the last of my coffee before making the final leg of the trip. Lane splitting was in order almost all the way to Beaumont, about 15  miles, after that it was pretty clear.

It sounds like it wasn't much fun, but I enjoyed being on the bike for a 300 miler.

Next up Ride # 39
December 28, 2024

Not much, just a get out and ride and barely qualified at 55 .miles. I had been wanting to go over Ortega to check things out after the fires. The first time I tried it my battery crapped out on me and I had to shorten my trip. Things didn't look good, it is so sad to see that some people lost everything.

Anyhoo, a quick buzz up the mountian to my normal stopping place, only to find the gates closed and locked, well that sucks. There was no damage there but about 4 miles back there was a lot of burnt stuff.

Because of the fires Ortega Hwy was closed for about 2 or 3 weeks. Because of the closure I couldn't ride to work and had to take the long  route with my truck.

Here are a few pics.

That looks nice, thank you, had it printed out at MaoMart. I quit printing color at home about a decade ago. Have needed to have a thing printed maybe 3 times since.

The last one,Ride # 40
December 31, 2024
112 miles

Since I had to work on New Years Eve I decided to ride the bike. I left for workat 5:45 am for my dark and cold 39° ride to work. It was foggy in some places and I had to stop 4 times to clear either my faceshield or glasses or both. The temperature stayed in the low to mid 40's for most of the trip, it was a good test of my new overpass to keep me warm. I'm pleased to say they worked pretty well. I had to raise the windshield because the condensation was comming over the top and hitting me smack in the face, fortunately on the FJR that is just the touch of a button.

Anyhoo I learned that I will have to find something to deal with a foggy faceshield to ride in the colder weather. Now all my 2024 rides are caught up i will start to concentrate on 2025. I think I will try Mount Balde area in a little while to see how bad the last fire changed things.

Just 1 pic of the view from my "office" ina gutted house.

Pinlock inserts work pretty well for foggy internal shields...

I don't know what those are, David. I wear a modular helmet,  so is that something available?

Do a search of your specific helmet face shield Pinlock to see if they offer one for your helmet.

Keeping your internal and external surfaces of the visor clean helps with reducing fogging. Soap and water, some will leave a light film of dawn on the internal surface to help reduce vapor collection. I just keep mine clean and use a pin lock insert made by Arai for my helmet. Once moving I don't have too much issues with any fogging.

Snowmobile heated visor are also excellent for cold and cold and wet weather riding, but your helmet maker has to make heated shields or snowmobile helmets to get one of those.

Thank you Kevin.  I think it's fantastic!  You are doing a wonderful job, don't sell yourself short.

No early start for me on 2025 as we are covered in snow here.  Not nearly as bad as some folks south of us, but it looks like I'll need to shovel a bit.  Well below freezing for at least the next 10 days so no chance of any of it melting.

Picked up the photo from Maomart, it fit OK on 8x12, they cut off the extra for me at the store.
