Ride #5 97 miles
All sunshine today after 29? twisters in SW Michigan yesterday. Lots of rain, some lightning, but thank goodness no deaths.
I started the day mowing the front yard on my other Honda, does that count for anything? I was hoping for a noon departure but that didn’t happen. So I did the first 10 miles on the M14 out to Gottfredson and North Territorial, just beyond suburbanization, for now. Karl’s Cabin is at the corner for as long as I can remember. It’s a halfway restaurant between Plymouth and Ann Arbor. It has been through many changes including biker bar but now they’re catering to golfers and wealthy folks nearby. The old NTerritorial offset right angle turns at Gottfredson were replaced with high speed sweepers in the early 70’s. Of course there weren’t GoPro cameras back then and nobody had a movie camera to record our Mike Hailwood turns. Nowadays there are Stop signs at the east intersection and too much turning traffic at the west intersection.
https://www.karlscabin.com/Finally made it to Huron River Drive and it’s closed, blocked by WCSheriff, who knows why? I pull up next to the Shadow rider and ask, he doesn’t know why, but he wants to talk about my CB. Then I ask about his Shadow: it’s a 750, not an 1100. He just got it this year, and sold his GoldWing last year. There’s one earlier Honda: he won’t have any other brand. Just then, the shiniest black Chevy Silverado comes around the corner followed by the camera car with the photographer strapped in a seat to the front bumper. Either they’re filming a movie or, more likely a Chevy commercial. The two Hondas will be right at the end of the commercial.
On to Dexter, I enjoyed my coney dog and diet root beer. As I was leaving, a gal complimented my Honda, but told me about her own bikes in the past, a CB360 and others. Her hubby had bikes up to a Valkyrie, they provided the music for the bike meets here way in the past. Their riding days ended when the Valk was totaled near Tractor Supply up the road, and hubs was busted up as well. She wished me well, and safe rides, thank you.
Further on, I was detouring on Hadley, and I smelled the sweetest smell, and then I spotted the the honeysuckle flowers, and the roadside was loaded with honeysuckle flowers for miles, so nice. It doesn’t last for long.
At home 530pm, I get the mower out and finish in the back yard, it’s twice the front and now I’m in the easy chair whupped and I will sleep tonight and it was a good day for a ride.
