Well sometimes you have to just grab the handle bars and let the wind blow in one ear and out the other to clear the mind. That's what I did Thursday afternoon to get # 21 done.

Very late start., around 6:30 and a local run up the mountian to barely squeak a qualifying ride.  Headed for my favorite rest area to have a bit of coffee, listen to the silence, and watch the last few drops of sunlight leak into the Pacific ocean AND it was just what the doctor ordered! About 81°f/27°c to start and just a slight breeze, so it was perfect. Clocked around 56mi/90kms and most of the traffic was going the other way. The only downside was I had made a damping adjustment on the forks and the adjuster/cap started leaking again, but this isn't the pissed off thread, so I'll leave that alone.

That is true, David. Things could be worse and I bet lash would be happy to trade issues right now!

Hey lash, if you are following along, how is the recovery going?  Can you take a deep breath yet without pain? Is the insurance company playing nice? I hope you are back at it soon.

Not all of the stuff I mentioned earlier is done. It's just tires and farkles on an otherwise stock suspension for now. I got a late start again this year and needed tires right away so on these went. I did finish the 21" front wheel though and will eventually give that a go.

I’m following along and its been driving me crazy waiting for everything to heal. Been two weeks already and I think today is the day to give it a try. Either the Shadow 500 (nice and light) or the Goldwing (no shifting, good shocks) Never know until you try…

Lash, good luck with your re-maiden voyage,  just don't push it. The ride will be a test, how you feel the next morning will tell you if you passed or not. A dose of ibuprofen about an hour before blast off can help too.

A test and bring home food in a backpack  ride!
The brown K2 runs better than ever!
Last carb adjustments made it!

Regulator adjustment fine too. The charging voltage can change but within the limits of the wet battery (14.7V).

It started with max 14.0V when cruising at mostly 4000rpm, after ca 40 km it jumped up to 14.5V.
  Stopped for kebab plate to bring home.
When continued the ride heading home it continued to  stay at 14.5 V, increasing to 14.6 with additional 14.7V.

Using blinkers  it jumped down to 14.0 V for a while. Later back to 14.4/5 V.

A voltmeter is a must. Adjust the regulator in the garage and think it will not cook the battery is risky. I have adjusted the regulator the last 4-rides this year,  charging voltage to not enter over 14.7V, but ensure over 14V.

Both my bikes needs 1 hour ride or more to make sure the regulator is ok, not enter the +15V area after a while. Both now OK.

My K6 had changed since last year. Adjuster screw for core gap not tightened enough, it had changed. 0.80-0.85mm is perfect.  Something in the middle.

I like the delicious vegans beside the road. Medium rare, oh yeah!!

I have found a tasty Bordeaux for only 11-12 Euro!!
A real bang for the buck!!
Not as the +20-25 Euro ones but very ok.

Hi Jim,
the food was packed in a "cell plastic" package that kept it warm. Like old McDonalds Big Mac packages but bigger.

I heated it up 30sec in the micro. It had been shipped over 40km and me to dress off, open the bottle of red wine.

The backpack itself, thin nylon fabric found on Amazon. I had a nylon bag to store it in.

Two weeks late but I managed to get #48 in at 128 km. Tonight I will see if it is too soon to be on a bike again. At least it will be good pain from a good ride! I rode the Goldwing so it worked out pretty well, will be some time before I get out with the CB’s.
Insurance emailed me this afternoon and they want to write the bike off. Too late to talk to them today but next week I will see if I can buy it back. No idea how that works.

If they give you B.A.T. or  Mercam prices, then that should be pretty good. But see if it can be registered and insured after being a total. You may have to switch everything over to a non totaled frame. I know where I live the DMV has a special designation for previously totaled vehicles and it stays with the vin forever. Being that I have part-timers I can't remember what they call it. But a cheap buyback may be worth it for all the pieces from the steering head and back. Sometimes they just tell you, keep it. They look at as an old vehicle that isn't worth anything in the shape it is in, but we know better.

I sure hope you wake up in the morning feeling chipper!

I have other titled frames that I could swap the good pieces over to. I think here in Ontario if it is written off it cant be retitled as fit.
On another note, I really would have liked to meet Frank. I think he would be happy to see that people from literally around the world are keeping him with us.

Hope you are not going to feel it too bad tomorrow Lash, but definitely take it easy, don't want to undo any healing or it just really complicates the overall healing. Often in our advanced years breaks take longer to heal, don't wanna do anything to help that along. Nice thing about breaks is a broken area is stronger than before once it heals, just don't want to deal with breaks very often...they are seriously no fun and they hurt years later

Fcuk I hate winter. Spotty and I did some bike work on my other BMW yesterday, but today I needed to bolt my new classic club plate on the Hindenburg and take it for it's first legal ride.

Being that it was so bloody cold, (around 50 deg F) I only did around 80 miles and didn't stop for food. I wanted to go to Taco Bell and have a taco for lunch, but was worried that I wouldn't be able to manipulate my arthritic fingers (the heated grips work great, but I forgot to turn them back on when I started the bike after taking these pics and it was too difficult to reach the control switch in the fairing while on the freeway so only turned them back on a few miles from home) so rode home, then jumped in the truck and bought some chicken for the wife and I for lunch instead.

Anyway, apart from not having enough warm clothing, it was a good ride, and the Hindenburg went great, now that I've re-wired the fuel pump with a dedicated relay and fuse, and heavy duty wiring. I'm looking forward to ride #23, but it might be awhile until the weather is suitable. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

6-14-24 54 miles rode to work to show off bike. CB500x number 32

6-15-24 104 miles, ran over to Angola, headed south to Waterloo, then home, 500x, #33. 281 miles on bike in 6 days, today Sunday looks nice too, at work now, clocked in at 245AM, out about 10AM probably

I met up with the guys I used to work with on the MET team at Home Depot for breakfast Friday morning.  Temps in the low 60's, just perfect riding.  Folks were already at work so little traffic on the roads.

Had sausage, eggs & toast for $6 at this great little Mom & Pop place in the little village of Casstown.

About freezing hands...
I have gloves that looked warmer and good for colder weather.
Weather proof touring gloves from Dainese.

Around +10*C  rides felt warm to start with. But the not breathing, water proof gloves made my hands sweat. It took not long until my fingers were freezing. Max 30 minutes.

I have no hand sweat normally.

My thinner not waterproof leather gloves are warmer.

If riding in heavy rain, rain covers like Rukka brand over gloves work fine. I used those during long rides in the 80's.

Given price of eggs these days $6 breakfast price is very cheap, nice ride reports. I can relate Terry, once you acclimate to very hot temps 50 or 60f is feeling cold. We are forecast to see 110 this afternoon. Reached 108 on Saturday...  Welcome to summer in the desert. Cools overnight to about 70-75f at most. At least the air is dry here so mosquitoes are less numerous. In Phoenix the mosquitoes get down in the grass and survive the heat shaded by the grass and the idiots water their lawns daily allowing mosquitoes to thrive within the inversion bubble. SO the trifecta of heat with humidity and mosquitoes and smog if you want to throw that in for good measure, plenty of that too...

Dennis, good on you keeping up with your old workmates. That is a cool looking breakfast place. Is the 2nd floor residence? A $6.00 breakfast is good too, I paid just a tad over $18.00 for a burger, fries, and a soda yesterday on my ride.........more on that later.

One of my usual routes but with different combinations.

The flowers beside the roads remind me that this is the beginning of the summer. ;)

The bike runs really well with good response and not high fuel consumption, 46mpg. Over speed limits most of the time ;D

Made my own meal, doggy style when back home. ;D



Rear tire tired. 1mm in the middle left, flat with boring handling, sudden tip over.
Ride to totally flat, not safe. Another 230km ride is possible.




Lasted 3810 km, a few hp more  than a good stock bike.   
What rubber in the ME77, erasor?

392 pistons give extra compression,  Yamiya No number 4-4 and K&N air filter in box gives a little more. 064A carbs really good. Need choke at start only.
 

I have front and rear wheels in my garage with new tires, Michelin Road classic 4.0-18  and 3.25-19.
