That's a beauty Terry.  I bet it's a joy to ride too.  That weather you're having looks pretty good from here....  we've been well below freezing with 5-6 inch of snow the past couple of days.

Thanks guys, I had a great ride, the weather was perfect, somewhere in the mid 70’s, the roads were pretty quiet, and the old Suzy was loving it. When I built it I installed a NOS speedo and it’s now done 296 Km with only a bad condenser on its first ride home from the Roadworthy Inspection. Jim, it’s loud and obnoxious but I don’t mind that at all, because I could see cars attempting to merge into my lane could hear me coming and gave me some space.

It’s been my experience that car drivers don’t look for bikes, so at least they can hear me coming. The blue smoke eventually cleared too, which was another plus. I’m going to replace the missing header bolt on the weekend and tighten the others, and take it for another ride. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well we are supposed to have a other 3 or 4 days of rain comming In and since I haven't been out since last Sunday.....it's time for ride #8. So Sunday the temps were nice and the sky was sorta threatening so what the heck, right?

As always the plan was to not have a plan, and it worked out well. I aimed Eeyore the Magnificent toward the Ortega Hwy because it is a fun ride and not too far away. I stopped at the Lookout like I always do and was suprised that everyone and their mother was there, I could hardly even park. But it was a 3 day weekend here in the USA and a good day to be out. I snapped a couple of pics and proceeded on to the rest area/trail head about another 4 miles down the road. Had a nice cup of coffee and shot the sf!t with some hikers and horseback riders, took a pic looking toward the Pacific  ocean then was off and running again. I buzzed down to the bottom on the "beach" side, did a u-turn and back over to Lake Elsinore. Got a wild hair and decided to go over to Perris instead of going straight home. It was pretty nice and old town Perris and the railway museum will have to be explored on another trip ( I didn't get ant pictures). Next I lollygaged my way towards Lake Mathews and home. Got a different look at the lake and stopped at the dam for a few picks, down the last 4 or 5 miles and home.

It was a great wind therapy session for about 4 hours of putting around. Ride #8 done, 16 more to go!

Stats:
    Start time.         1:00
    Start temp         68°f/20°c
    Lowest temp.    57°f/14°c
    Back home.       64°f/18°c
    Total distance  106mi/171kms

Ride #5 - 92 miles.

Great to see all the rides that are happening!

It's been pretty chilly around here since my last ride on 02/02.  It was 24F when I got up this past Sunday.  Today's high is 80F as I type this.  Other than some wind it was awesome day.  Yesterday was nice too, but I couldn't break away.  I did, however, give the Scout a much-needed bath to get it ready for today.  I removed the fairing.  It's a pain to wash it with the fairing attached.  I decided to leave it off for today's ride.  It's been a while since I've ridden the Scout without it.  I think I'm going to leave it off for few rides.

I rode west to Doss, then North and East to Castell with the wind to my back.  Then headed to Llano for some gas, then South to home, straight into the wind.  I threw a can of water in the saddle bag before I left and stopped to drink it at the intersection of two highways, where I took the pic.  That was about it.  The warm weather was welcomed.  Other than the wind and the bugs it was pretty much a perfect day.

Saturday and Sunday are looking good.  I'm really looking forward to my first 300 miler though I don't think it will be this weekend.  The weather is looking good for the next couple of weeks.  The wildflowers will probably start showing up in the next couple of weeks if it doesn't get cold again.

Looks like a good loop, I was starting to worry about you. I put Llano in my weather cities and it looks like you have  had a string of good ride days, so I figgered that you were busy.

Wildflowers should be pretty good here too this year,  it just needs to warm up a little.

Excellent rides and pics guys. I’ve sold my little blue Yamaha so will be delivering it locally on Saturday but Sunday should be nice (currently in the 90’s here) so will take the ol’ Suzuki T500 for another blast. As the last ride was uneventful I might go a little further than 90-odd miles next ride, but it’ll depend on how it feels in the first 20, I’ll be carrying the OEM tool kit and can always call the auto club if it breaks down, but sitting in the middle of nowhere thinking of new swear words while waiting for the tow truck isn’t my idea of a great ride. ;D

Well ride #8 is in the bag. It's Friday but I'd taken the day off to take my wife out for lunch at our favourite bistro, but our plans turned to mud when her 91 year old mum was ambulanced to hospital on Wednesday evening. As the hospital is in the city we were expecting to have to drive in today to take her home, but at the last minute they told us that they're keeping her in an extra day.

Well you need to make hay while the sun shines, so as half the day was lost and lunch wasn't going to happen, so I took another tach, a gallon of 98 and a bolt for the exhaust flange over to the storage unit, and did some work on the T500, before I took it for a quick, 60 mile ride. As usual it fired right up and patiently idled away while I was pulling on my jacket, gloves and helmet. I took off and did a different route today, out into the hills.

I had some errands to run when I got home, so didn't stop for food, but had a great ride, and the T500 was a pleasure to ride. I'm doing some work on the DT250 with Spotty tomorrow and later have to deliver the blue Yamaha DS6 to it's new owner. If the weather's nice on Sunday, I might get ride #9 in. ;D

Sorry that the wife's mother didn't get to come home, I hope she gets released soon. Nobody gets any rest in the hospital.

Good on you for salvaging the day. That Suzuki looks right at home in them thar hills. Are there more animals you have to watch out for in the hills or they more suicidal in the flat areas? I find around here the critters can be much bigger in the mountains but less of them..

Hopefully Sunday will work out for you and you don't get bogged down trying to decide which bike to ride!

Thanks guys, the old (50 this year) continues to surprise me with just how good it is to ride. Once the DT250 is on the road I must finish the wiring on the T350 and finally get it on the road. It’ll be interesting to see how they compare. ;D

I have to concur, I love my old bikes more than any of the newer models.  These vintage machines offer an experience that transcends mere transportation, tapping into a wellspring of nostalgia, mechanical connection, and pure, unadulterated riding pleasure.  For me a  more direct, mechanical connection between rider and machine, without all of the electronic wizardry and complex rider aids found on new bikes, makes for a more enjoyable ride.  You feel the engine rumble, the clutch engage, the weight shift with every turn - a symphony of feedback that modern bikes, with their layers of insulation, can sometimes mute.

Then there's looks...  Our old bikes possess timeless design aesthetic, their lines sculpted by function rather than the latest trend. This enduring appeal, coupled with the patina of age and the stories each nick and scratch whispers, gives them a unique character that modern bikes, designed for mass appeal, lack.

Funny memory alert. I remember when as the Japanese motorcycle boom was in its " teen age years" and bikes started comming standard with turn signals and thinking " why would anyone want all that junk on a motorcycle? That was around the transition time for me from a trail 90 with an " automatic clutch" to my C200 with a REAL clutch and 4 speed.

Yup, just looking at these old bikes really lights up the old memories! Now GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!

Thanks Guys, yep these old bikes are a lot of fun. It’s a shame that the “collectors” (investors) have grabbed so many of them that they treat as currency and not for what they’re intended. I’d prefer to have a “not quite perfect” example that I can ride without worrying about stone chips marring the perfect paint or putting on too many miles, and affecting the “value”.

The value to me is the joy I get from putting them back on the road and riding them. That’s why I’m not interested in going to bike shows, seeing a bunch of trailer queens that never get ridden just pisses me off. But that’s for another thread… ;D

If you do two rides today, you only need one ride every day for the rest of the year.  After today, there are 310 days remaining in this year.

I'm with you Kelly, I probably still have 20 bikes after selling another one on Saturday, and definitely don't have enough days in the year to do 24 rides on each. Once I'm retired at the end of next year, well, with luck I won't have any more than half a dozen or so by then, so that might be different.

My son Tim's Royal Enfield 650 has been gathering dust out in the patio probably since the last time I "borrowed" it, last year. Tim works in the TV and movie industry, and has been busy making lots of money, but told me I can ride it whenever I want to. Yesterday I wanted to, but first it needed a wash.

It looked much nicer afterwards, but I do need to polish the chrome, as eventually, I'm going to "inherit" it, so need to keep it in "as new" condition.

I also pumped the tyres up again. I was a bit surprised at how quickly they lost pressure from the last time I rode it, maybe those gas station pumps aren't as accurate as I'd thought? Both tyres had around 20 psi, down a fair bit from 32/36 psi that I was sure I pumped them up to last ride. While I was washing it, I noticed (for the first time) that the right side cover had a lock on it. Curious as to why I opened it, and it appears to have a pretty good tool kit, as opposed to the factory tool kit for my Ducati 916's, that have a spark plug spanner and a screwdriver....... Now I'd done all this without actually starting it, and was a bit worried that the battery would be dead, but no, months (and months) after my last ride, I turned the key and hit the button, and it fired up like I'd ridden it yesterday.

I only had my black "Badass" open face helmet and a pair of winter gloves here, so used my compressed air to blow the spiders out before donning them and riding over to the storage unit to grab my "Joe Rocket" ventilated jacket (temps in the 80's again yesterday) and ventilated gloves, and my Shark helmet. I'd stopped on the way and filled it with 98 RON fuel to add a bit of pep to the 12 (?) month old fuel in the tank. It doesn't need it, but as it turned out it loves it, and just felt a little quicker. What I did notice though, is that the front brake appeared to be dragging quite badly. The "ByBre" ("By Brembo", their budget brand) front 2 piston caliper looks simple, but the bike has ABS, so I wasn't sure if it was just a blocked return port in the MC, or something more sinister. By the time I got to the storage unit, the front brake was almost locked on, the disc was blue, and so I popped open the caliper bleed valve, and the brake caliper and fluid was as hot as hell. At least by popping the bleeder the brake pads released.

I didn't want to turn around and go home, so relied on engine braking (very strong on the big twin) and the rear brake, which isn't ideal, but in 2022 I rode that BMW R1100RT 1300 miles home from Hervey Bay in Queensland with just the rear brake, and in 2009 rode my BMW K1100LT to Sydney and back (1000+ miles) with the rear brake only, both times due to the internal rubber lines crumbling and filling the front calipers with rubber sludge. The Royal Enfield has braided lines, so it shouldn't be the case, I'll pop the cap off the MC and poke a fine wire into the return hole and I reckon that will sort it, then we'll get the bike serviced, for the first time after the initial service in 2019. (only 2000 miles ago)

Of course I still wanged it out to 100 MPH on some nice quiet country roads devoid of traffic and (hopefully) cows and Kangaroos, not really thinking too hard about the consequences of having to slow down with only 30% of the bike's braking abilities. Having said that, I did a little "off roading" to take one pic and unconsciously used the front brake and it still worked fine, I just had to wait for a minute or two for it to release before I could "go my own way". I rode first to Wallan, and saw a huge traffic jam on the other side of the freeway, and made a mental note to stay off the freeway on my way back. I rode on to Kilmore, but as I'd seen an interesting kebab shop in Broadford last time I rode thru, I rode on, only to find out once I got there that the place was closed, hopefully, not permanently.........

No biggie, I took the backroad (not the freeway) to Eden Park, for a pic in one of my favourite spots.

I'm so used to riding my bikes back to the storage unit that I was trying to work out a route to bypass the previously mentioned traffic snarl on the freeway when I remembered that I was riding home and didn't need to go near the freeway. Excellent. Got back early-ish after around 130 miles of fun on the Enfield. The wife wasn't home, so I jumped in my little truck and drove over to my local Returned Services Club for a couple of drinks, before coming home to make a pizza for dinner. #9 down, and a near perfect day. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
