Today was rideable after 3 days of heavy rain, it washed last week's salt off the roads, but, my new tire came in for the goldwing so I pulled the wheel off and took the new tire down to my favorite shop to have them mount and balance it. When I pulled it I checked the bearings, sure enough, they were toast. Thankfully I had a new set of All balls to put in so once I got the wheel back I drove out the old and put in the new set(4 bearings), but not until I popped off the dust seals to inspect the grease.....ahhhh what grease??? So you all, figure on packing the new bearings with good grease(both sides), use a sharp knife to get under the dust seal, before you install them, if you want to get good life out of your investment.....

This is both sides of the one bearing......

After 2 days of solid rain the sun came out with high winds and +9c ,which dried out my gravel road enough to get in #20. Any day you get out on the bike is a great day!
I wish it would warm up enough to get the cb’s out….

Jim, I forgot to ask what’s up with your FJR? Looks like a big job?

Just a bunch of periodic maintenance  and new tires. Oil change, new rear shock, swing arm and rear suspension service, steering bearing grease, drive shaft, and diff service, and oil change. To do the shock and swing arm you have to suspend the bike because the center stand has to come off, but you can't take the bolts out unless you take off all the Tupperware and the entire exhaust. Or just cut the bolrs. You had one so you know you have to remove everything except the paint to do many things to them.

It is almost done, and i should be back to riding soon. Oil and filter, reinstall the plastic, and away we go. I hope i can catch up.

The sealed bearings if the shields are not removable always made me skeptical. Gotta disassemble inside a plastic bag so the shield clip isn't lost in the 5th dimension or where all the 10mm sockets go...

Today I signed up for a three day ride with the CVMG Ganaraska guys.  First day is 218 kilometres to cottages on a lake in N.E. Ontario. Two nights there with day trips and a roundabout trip home on Sunday. +800 km’s all in and best of all my son is coming along too (I’ll need to get the K3 ready). The “ride captain” is very organized, so maps and reservations for sure!

That must be a fun adventure, John!
You will get a few rides to report here if you are going for 24 rides in 2024.
One ride/day if I remember the 2024 ride guideline correctly.
You will do a few rides each day, right.

Fantastic views in Canada too.
Bear spray or is it enough to spray yourselves with beer? ;D

Terry is full of bike projects, nice to follow too. Lots of energy despite lots of pain..

I need to take care of my slow going CB750 project. Have to make space in the garage first. Lots of junk everywhere tornado style.

The Allballs don't have clips to hold the seals/shields. They just snap in.

Terry ……... I’m not a huge fan of “group rides” but the guys in my club are a decent bunch so I thought I’d give it a try. The Ride Captain has a very strict set of rules and has divided the group in two. My shop  mate Gary and my son both wanted to do it, so signed up! Will report later.
Per…… you’re right, three days will generate three rides! Hopefully it will be good weather and good fun. The area we are headed to has lovely roads, lots of lakes and wildlife!

Fill the entire hub with grease and use bearings that are sealed on outside only must live longer, right?
The 2RS bearings I have used did not like long time storage. SKF, not cheaper stuff.
Last times SKF 2RSH.  Have better seal according to spec.

Ride #2 today. It was 49° F this morning at 9:30 so I back the goldwing out of the garage and geared up, went to church and then headed out for another 70 mile ride through the back twisty 2 lane roads.
Stopped by the trébuchet (a type of catapult) that get used for pumkin chunkin'.
Then on north to follow 2 different rivers that are very full and flowing. I stopped at the 205 year papermill, still in operation, not like in it's heyday but still putting out specialty paper, just past the old train trestle, my dad and mom rode the steam train over it to go to dances and basket ball games during the 1940s when in high school.
I didn't get pictures of the second river road as the wet weather was threatening. Got back to the barn as it was just starting to spit very lightly @ 2pm at 57°.
I went in an heated up some Seafood Newburg for a late lunch.

Ride #11, 80 miles.

Kind of a lack luster ride this morning.  A little cool, very cloudy and humid.  The toilet handle broke yesterday, and I couldn't get out to buy a replacement.  I had to work on my taxes.  I decided to go get a new handle this morning.  This weekend was also the weekend for the Texas Fandango in Fredericksburg.  It's a small vintage bike rally, mostly old American V-twins.  Lots of bikes in town.  I wanted to go to at least catch some of the dirt track races and vintage chopper drags (on dirt), but I don't usually like to go to things like this by myself.  If I do, I usually don't stay long... I buy a t-shirt and leave.  A friend messaged me yesterday afternoon and said he was at the Fandango.  I couldn't break away (taxes), but tried to get him to meet me for breakfast at my favorite taco joint in Fredericksburg this morning.  The plan was to ride the bike in and then go find a toilet handle after breakfast.  He bailed on me, so I ditched the idea of going in for tacos (I hadn't been there in months), but rode to the Home Depot in Kerrville for the toilet handle, because I knew the local hardware store would be closed today.  I decided to stop at Walmart on the way back for a few groceries, and it dawned on me that I probably could have just got a toilet handle there, which meant I could have spent the time and gas riding better and more interesting roads than the highway. Oh well.  A 50 mile plus ride is a ride.  No pics, just a route map.

Congratulations on getting #1 done, Per.

Very good looking bike and interesting ride Stu!

The bike is @ 35' away from the catapult, which is @ 50'-60' tall. They shoot pumkins at a mini castle @ 400-500 yards away up on a mound. They grow the pumkins in the field between the 2.

Is that where the official event is held?  I used to watch it on TV often.  Fun to watch the different classes.   Seems like the pneumatic lauchers "pied" often.

Bud kinda showed a few more than 23 rides wasn't so hard and maybe 24 just could see some folks documenting 72 to 96 rides, would be interesting to see someone hit 100 rides. I bet they would enjoy every minute of it...

Stu cool photos! Had a several cool shots, that trebuchet wasn't messing around on size!
Seen them throw crushed cars or cars that had been partially crushed. Makes a real mess whether they are tossing washing machines or cars or pumpkins... The farmers field isn't a plowing or cutting or planting hazard after launching pumpkins.
Couldn't imagine the cleanup on a field where they launch washers and pianos and cars and the like...

Can you imagine if war was still waged with those kinds of war implements instead of aircraft bombs and missiles and tanks and the like.
Man always found more incentive ways or things to kill with throughout history.

That Seafood Newburgh looks delicious, don't remember if I have ever had it. What all is in it?

#21 today, beautiful weather, lots of bikes out. 150km with my friend and his 2005 Concours.
You have soon done 24 rides!
What to do rest of rhe season? ;D
If it ever warms up I want to do at least 24 on the cb750’s. Going to try and get out today but it doesn’t look promising right now. Being retired is a curse for yard work!

Day #22 was a two bike day. Took the Shadow out for breakfast and an 80 km run and then a 100 km shakedown first ride of the year on the CB. One of my oil lines is leaking so I will have to get at that before a ride it again. Great day anyway!
