  • Bike almost back to the 70's 2015
Its too easy to make small mistakes that hurts.
As parking the bike on a bumpy surface. Sidestand down with left foot and leave bike as usual.

The bumpy surface did not work with side stand. Bike just fell, me under, saving the bike.

Still occasional pain in left wrist that took the load a year ago.
Had to replace left handle bar switch and clutch lever which I had new home.

Some parts important to have home in riding season. ;D

Looks like I got in #4 yesterday. I got the K5 out at 8:15 am, 54° F/12.222C, on the road to add 50 miles to Mike V's, who was able to get away from his remodeling project for his Mrs V to ride along with me on his red K1 another 49 miles in Saco Maine to meet up with Sean D the infamous Lone Builder, on his Belfast to Belfast ride about to find all the Belfasts in Canada and the USA (and the World!!). We sat and chatted learning some of each other for a bit while Sean finished his coffee before we headed out with top off splash of petrol as my speedometer decided to quit (@ 10 miles earlier)and I would need gas fairly soon, then off we went as a rag tag formation of 3 SOHC4 750s, west for another 50 miles back into New Hampshire to meet up with Andy750(the tall Scotsman on his orange K4)at Steve Blake's world renowned Honda Restoration, NOS parts(for the past 30 years!) and a few Honda bikes still hibernating awaiting some love and new owners as Steve is trying to retire and sell off his museum bikes and NOS parts business. So if you are interested in getting into the business by buying a few shipping containers full of bikes and NOS parts...... https://www.hondarestoration.com/index.asp
Andy and Sean fiddled with the windscreens on their bikes while we chatted and swatted the little black flies, as we are just getting into "black fly season ", then we lined up the bikes for some photos and more swatting and removing them from our eyes, ears, noses and mouths. Why did God create them darn Black Flies? Thankfully they weren't bitting too much yet!
Steve gave the tour of the shop and parts, Steve found Sean found a new clutch lifter plate and found a new speedometer cable for my bike(it works again!). Andy said his good byes as he had a dinner date back in Boston and Mike had to leave shortly after to get back to his remodeling. Sean and I hung out with Steve and his bride Suzie for a while to catch us all up on Sean's adventures from Belfast S Africa to Belfast Ireland ride about and is living in Africa for work while Suzie cooked up some sandwiches and cookies(homemade raisin oatmeal she made a day beforeher hip replacement on Thursday)..
Sean and I headed out after 5pm, 62°F/16.7C, to my place for another 45 miles, for a total of 194 miles on today's adventure.
Once we unloaded Sean's bags and got him settled in the spare bedroom we chatted for an hour before heading out in my van to a small Italian restaurant for dinner. (forgot to get pictures arg!) It was a grand day.

Today we will get Sean's K2 up on the lift to see why the clutch keeps needing adjustment too often and to fix a couple oil leaks. He is going to hang out here a couple of days before making his way up to Toronto and find the next Belfast on his list(22 in Canada and USA) later in the week.

Definitely. Unfortunately Andy couldn't get out of Boston early enough to ride together. It was great getting to meet him in person! We will get together soon for some rides.

4-28-2024 59 miles. Bike started running like crap, once I got home I noticed that one of my intake isolaters had split right in half, not even a year old, 4 into 1 product.

Got a set of OEM from Ebay and got them installed Friday, balanced carbs again afterwards. headed out for a spin today.

#1 (better late than never) May 5th, 140miles

Did a nice ride on the Guzzi in the wilds of eastern Indiana.  Went from Indy to Metamora up to Connersville and back.  I forget how nice the backroads out far east are.  Found a few roads I amazingly haven't been on before and will be taking the Firebird out in near future for some fun cruising.

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Great rides and pics guys! OK, so yesterday I decided that the Hindenburg, my 40 year old "slightly scorched" BMW was close enough to ready for a test ride. As expected, within 15 miles from home it conked out, which is pretty normal for my "Shakedown/Breakdown" rides. It was fuel pump related, so I tried the remote switch I'd wired in, but nada, so checked the fuse, and it was fine too. WTF? I wiggled the switch and the pump came on, but then stopped again. Great. Sitting on the side of the freeway with a million cars and trucks going past, I was envious of their fuel pumps all working away nicely.

K100RS Sunday 5 May 2024 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I pulled the little panel with the sh1tty switch, unscrewed the terminals and threw the switch in my top box. I then zip tied the terminals and taped them up with insulation tape and zip tied the cables to the fairing, for good measure. I quickly started the engine, and was off again. Success!

K100RS Sunday 5 May 2024 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

The other side of the freeway was closed for maintenance, and the road that runs parallel to the freeway was chocked with cars and trucks, so I rode in a 50 mile circle through Beveridge, Eden Park, Whittlesea, Mernda, Thomastown, and back home. The wife had gotten home before me and blocked the driveway with her car, so I pulled the fuse for the fuel pump and locked it up for the night. Pity the fool who tries to steal this bike.........

K100RS Sunday 5 May 2024 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Anyway, apart from the dodgy fuel pump wiring and a fairly bald back tyre, the bike ran great, all the lights, blinkers and horn work, the seat is really comfy and the PO raised the handlebars with blocks for less of a stretch, so it's quite comfy. I didn't leave until late in the afternoon and by the time I got home it was getting dark. The warmth coming up from the radiator was quite pleasant as it was getting cold, and apart from a Wallaby almost getting me when riding thru the same spot where I hit a Wallaby on my Goldwing many years ago, ride #19 was fairly uneventful. I've got an 8 day permit for it so I'll fix the wiring tonight, and pull the rear wheel off to get a new tyre installed, and life will be good. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ride #4   79 miles   46.5mpg

It feels like forever since I have been out, that’s probably because you all have been so busy. It has been raining here a lot, which means the grass is growing like crazy. It also means if a sunny day happens to pop up I’m encouraged to mow and I would reply you do it, but she’s not feeling well so it falls right back to me, and today I just said I’m going.
It’s been 18 days since the truck got stuck in the Dexter stone underpass. The A&W gal told me a truck gets stuck there about once a month, but that’s on the west side of town and I didn’t go beyond the east side of Dexter.
What I did see today was in Northville, at the public library. The tree sculptor Tom Fink is carving a tree trunk into a horse at the public library, not very far from the Northville Downs horse racing track which is being demolished for housing. The current residents are mostly endeared to the horses and the racing, but the track property owners, developers and the city government are salivating at the dollars that will be collected from the new homeowners after the new homes are built. So maybe the wooden horse will be a link to the past, before good old 2024.
Anyway, the CB started well, ran very well. I don’t believe I topped 70 mph or 6000rpm.
It was nice to be out.

When you're "Working from home" and it's still sunny and (almost) warm, you gotta take the opportunity and go for a ride. I've ordered a heavy duty fuel pump wiring harness with relay and fuse for the Hindenburg because I can't get the stocker to work (possibly damaged in the fire) but a fuse alone isn't a good thing and I burnt my fingees pulling the glass fuse to switch the fuel pump off on Sunday.

No, it was time to take the DT250 out again. I'd done the tests in the troubleshooting guide that rex's speed shop sent me and it made no difference at all, the AC voltage produced by the lighting coil was around 25% lower than it should have been and even though I completely removed and checked the stator for a broken or frayed wire, it all looked brand new, so I've written back to them to see how they're gonna fix it. No matter, lights and blinkers are for pussies, the ignition source coil is independent of the lighting coil, so I took off for a late afternoon ride. With the sun slowly sinking in the west, there was no time for food, but I did stop for a quick pic, before I blasted off again.

DT250 Tuesday 7 May 2024 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Happily, that was ride #20, and although I got home before it got too dark, I was getting cold, and looking forwards to sliding back into my comfy chair. I'm working from home for the rest of the week, so if there's another sunny opportunity, I'll see if I can knock over ride #21 before the weekend. ;D

Today we took the two Suzuki GS 1100'E's out for a run. The black 81' is up for sale on Fakebook Marketplace. So I rode the crap out of it to make sure everything is kosher. I had to figure out why the brake light wasn't working. It was a connector block that was loose and a bad bulb for the tag light. Overall we did 56 miles so it counts as ride #2, Woo Hoo. 8)

I'll probably ride it again tomorrow too. A guy is coming on Saturday to look at it, there's two more interested parties as well. :D

Thanks buddy, the 80' GS 1100E that we're keeping has a Delkevick exhaust and a set of Mikuni RS 36's on it so I think I'll be fine. 8)

Ride #5  97 miles

All sunshine today after 29? twisters in SW Michigan yesterday. Lots of rain, some lightning, but thank goodness no deaths.
I started the day mowing the front yard on my other Honda, does that count for anything? I was hoping for a noon departure but that didn’t happen. So I did the first 10 miles on the M14 out to Gottfredson and North Territorial, just beyond suburbanization, for now. Karl’s Cabin is at the corner for as long as I can remember. It’s a halfway restaurant between Plymouth and Ann Arbor. It has been through many changes including biker bar but now they’re catering to golfers and wealthy folks nearby. The old NTerritorial offset right angle turns at Gottfredson were replaced with high speed sweepers in the early 70’s. Of course there weren’t GoPro cameras back then and nobody had a movie camera to record our Mike Hailwood turns. Nowadays there are Stop signs at the east intersection and too much turning traffic at the west intersection.

https://www.karlscabin.com/

Finally made it to Huron River Drive and it’s closed, blocked by WCSheriff, who knows why? I pull up next to the Shadow rider and ask, he doesn’t know why, but he wants to talk about my CB. Then I ask about his Shadow: it’s a 750, not an 1100. He just got it this year, and sold his GoldWing last year. There’s one earlier Honda: he won’t have any other brand. Just then, the shiniest black Chevy Silverado comes around the corner followed by the camera car with the photographer strapped in a seat to the front bumper. Either they’re filming a movie or, more likely a Chevy commercial. The two Hondas will be right at the end of the commercial.
On to Dexter, I enjoyed my coney dog and diet root beer. As I was leaving, a gal complimented my Honda, but told me about her own bikes in the past, a CB360 and others. Her hubby had bikes up to a Valkyrie, they provided the music for the bike meets here way in the past. Their riding days ended when the Valk was totaled near Tractor Supply up the road, and hubs was busted up as well. She wished me well, and safe rides, thank you.
Further on, I was detouring on Hadley, and I smelled the sweetest smell, and then I spotted the the honeysuckle flowers, and the roadside was loaded with honeysuckle flowers for miles, so nice. It doesn’t last for long.
At home 530pm, I get the mower out and finish in the back yard, it’s twice the front and now I’m in the easy chair whupped and I will sleep tonight and it was a good day for a ride.

Very nice Kevin.  That's one of my favorite things when riding in the spring.  Going through a wooded section and the smell of the honeysuckle.

You will regret the bikes you DIDN'T buy much more than the ones you DID!!!  It's never too late to start a new adventure!

Wow! You guys are really killing it, congrats to all both the new guys and the others that continue to clock some rides. Even that guy that is about 3 horizons ahead of us all!

It seems like it has been forever since my last ride, so I figgered that I better do some catch up, and I got out yesterday for a sweet 120 mile/ 193 km ride #16. Of course I will post too many pics again, I can't help myself because it is just too much fun to ride. So here we go.......

I started out around 2:00 and got home at almost 7:00, I know that is a long time for Only 120 miles. I was able to miss most of the rush hour traffic though, and that was a good thing. Last year I did a ride that took me along the east fork of the San Gabriel River and ran out of daylight and wanted to explore it again. This requires about 35 miles of freeway, then the fun starts. The canyon is a really nice ride but there was a bunch of construction but still nice. It was about 80°f/26° c at the start and cooled just a tad, so great weather. I was suprised that they had let almost all the water out from behind the upper dam, it looked weird. Any hoo I crossed the river bridge and headed up east fork and the traffic was super light because it was Wednesday ( ain't it great to be retarded, I mean retired)? I took the road all the way to the end and the trail head for "The Bridge to Nowhere", a bridge they built during the WPA time and never bothered to build any roads to it, that's govment for you!. Made a u turn and headed back down and saw the sign foe Mt Baldy and said what the heck. I rode this the opposite way last year and wanted to see if there was any wildflowers blooming, and there was. It is a 12 mile trip over to Baldy and I only saw 2 cars, one parked and one going the other way, plus one bicycle and one motorcycle. I guess that was rush hour. Found a nice spot by a creek to take a break and listen to the water fall. Got to the end at Baldy Village which is pretty much the end of the civilized road and decided to go up to the ski ares. That road can be a bit mean with several off camber tight switchbacks that had me in 1st gear. When I got to the top I saw that they had replaced the sign because the old one was pretty sad. So one more u turn and headed down the mountian. When you get to the bottom there are 2 tunnels and you know the fun stuff has come to an end. Headed for the freeway and home, it was less distance than I thought it would be, but still rewarding.

Some stats, and as promised too many pictures. I hope they might inspire others.

Stats:
     Start temp.            80°f/26°c
     Coldest temp.       63°f/17°c
     Home temp.          77° f/25°c
     Total trip.               120 mi/ 193 kms
