#9  90 km

A quick after work ride on country roads, visited a nearby motorcycle club's Wednesday meating, May- September.

I arrived in time to get my 2x150 grams burger with cheese before many other bikers arrival that had to wait, a long queue to the burger grill and add all add-ons by yourself.

Thanks Andy, I’m covering the same ground for the most part. I gotta look hard for what’s new. I’m trying to bust out of day rides for some overnighters or short trips, and not doing too well with that.

There are lots of folks hitting home runs here every day. It’s nice to be a part of it.

Oh, that reminds me; I was given a Gremlin Bell a few days ago. It might be a Harley thing, so for those that don’t know, it’s a little bell, that must be given to you – you can’t buy yourself one – and you hang it on your bike to scare away the road gremlins. It’s now hanging from the cable guide near my horn.

Sean, I have something just like that, and I put it on my mirror stalk. It’s with me every mile I ride and I earned it exactly right here.

How warm is it John? We are getting toasty with first 100F or higher day scheduled for Saturday...been low 90s at my place. Mid 90 as well... It is warming up.
Cool story about the bats Birdman. We have bats here, the long nosed Mexican bats will drain.a hummingbird feeder dry if you let them. They go after pollen plants too. They are very beneficial so most do not bring their feeders in but let them enjoy some sugar water.
They will almost hover or hover to let their long tongue snake out and into the feeder...
Wingspan isn't that small either. There is a cony under a bridge here...they live there in the warmer months and migrate to Mexico in winter. Fun to watch them come out and feed the area around the street lights dry of insects &  flying bugs before flying further away into the desert and nearby city to feed.
Anywhere you have high population of bats you have lots of insects they eat, they are good at helping control the insect population and the mosquito population. Any animal that eats mosquitoes is worth their weight in gold in my book.
Our low humidity helps control mosquitoes a lot, the bats and birds help with the rest.
Phoenix stupidly dies a lot of watering of grass lawns giving them a moist wet place to live during the heat of the day and water to raise more mosquitoes. So the mosquitoes are bad in Phoenix area. The inversion bubble, like Denver, makes the humidity much higher and the smog far worse.
Another couple reasons I hate Phoenix other than to visit...

Cool story about the bats Birdman…

I’ve been called a lot of things, but that’s a first.  LOL!

We don’t have mosquitoes in the Hill Country.  Lots of other bugs though as evidenced by the fact that I have to clean my bike after every ride.

Now if you want to talk mosquitoes Houston and a majority of the Gulf Coast is a cesspool of mosquitoes.  Absolutely horrible.  One of the many reasons I’m glad I left.

Hoping Kelly and BallA get it all sorted out and have many more rides y’all can chalk up.

This destination here a friend and I just blundered onto by accident 1990 or so, we were riding I on my K2 back then which was corvette red then, and he on some kind of domestic pushrod bike. We were thinking "WTF is THAT?". We had no idea there was a hydro dam anywhere near where we lived.

Thanks budman!  My blood work came back excellent yesterday.  I'd like to be riding 20 years from now, but as you know there are no guarantees.....

Speaking of which, ride #22 today.  Something around 70 miles again on the Yamaha Turbo.  Rode some lonely state routes and did the ton passing some slower traffic.  All and all a great day on the bike!

Surprise ride#5. Tim and I went to look at a new (to him) seed drill today. It turned out to be exactly the same model he has now, but this one still has all its paint and appears to be  in 5 X better condition. His has literally been breaking apart from too many trips around the fields, but will still be useful for parts. He jumped on his Yamaha Tenere (?) 1200 and we had a great run, on his extended lunch break! Tomorrow I’ll go back with a truck and drag it back. We fertilized the fields last night and I picked up 4 pallets (30 X 75lbs. bags each) of seeds this afternoon, so likely planting beans this weekend! Loading the seed box is great exercise!

#38 today at 183 km with Sean from my place to Belfast, On. Not much there but Sean managed to talk to someone that owned the farm surrounding it. The farm has been in his family for over 180 years!

Ride #7    85 miles

I got out today about 11am it was about 65f and perfect for jacket and gloves. I went by the demolition job and there was no obvious progress. I’ll give it a week or so, but the track is exactly where Hines Parkway dead ends at Seven Mile. I go that way most every time to “get out of town” westbound. The speed limit on Seven Mile is 50 but many go faster, and there is not much shoulder. I’d have lots of gorgeous horse pictures otherwise. If I catch it on a low traffic day I will get pictures.
Lunch at Arbys, I usually don’t have a food picture and I almost had a bite or two before the picture. I had
KFC, McD’s, and Arby’s to choose from at M36 and Whitmore Lake rd. This not nearly in the same class as what PeWe Budman Terry post, but it’s convenient, clean, quick, good enough.
On through Hamburg to Dexter and Huron River Drive. I stopped at the boat launch on the big bend above Barton pond. The shoulder is slanted, I could have used a 2x4 beneath my side stand, I sure didn’t want the bike to roll over on me or down the bank. With trepidation I leaned the bike gently way over to the stand and it held. I took the first picture and darn it, the bike was in the shade. So I moved to the sunny side, repeated the big lean, and shot the photo looking upstream. It’s a stunning ride around the big bend, even better when the river is glassed out and reflecting a perfect image.
I returned home and the last stop was at Shell for 1.75 gallons of VPower at $4.39/gallon yieding 48.5 mpg and 11 cents per mile.

John, it must have been brisk this morning at your place. It was 80f here when I arrived home, ok with jacket on while moving, but mighty warm when stopped.

Kevin….. It was! By 1.00pm the pants and liner were in the boxes and the vents were open. First truly nice day in a while! Ripping open the bags and loading the seed box is a good workout.

Not sure, we left him to go talk to the mother of the guy we met who has lived there all her life. He was looking for some history on the place but it’s just an intersection of roads and maybe three houses.
