Kevin, sorry to hear about the lady and her children down the street.

Glad to hear you folks are alright.

Seems I a long time ago when Al Gore first sounded the alarm as to what was coming.  We have had several very bad storms down this way too.  I'm hoping we've seen the worst of it for this year already.

Thanks to Al inventing the internet we can read these posts ;-)

;D ;D ;D  Despite decades of media mirth-making about the supposed statement, former vice president Al Gore never claimed he "invented the Internet."

You will regret the bikes you DIDN'T buy much more than the ones you DID!!!  It's never too late to start a new adventure!

I spent a fair amount of time on the ride report, and I have learned to use “select all, copy” at intervals while composing, otherwise the report would be much abbreviated after crashes and inaccurate. The photos, these days the photos have to be reduced, and added one at a time, otherwise the entire post is lost (saved by “copy”, phew) I use my email, email the photos to myself for reduction. All worth it. This is the best job ever!
.....

I use Tapatalk  app. I paid for no time limit (lifetime)licence, possible to attach more photos at the same time . Think that is VIP version.

Early 2019 when I bought a better phone good for Internet and camera.

I checked what available today. Lifetime license not available, only pay/monthly.

I use my private laptop very seldom. Easier to read with Tapatalk.
Only downside is no support for voting functions.

Really convenient to take photos I can use direct in a post without edit or compress it. Also add several photos at the same time.

The trickiest part was to find this forum in the long list of forums to add.
I have a link to the UK forum too. Plus other forums.

Thanks Per, I need to get up to speed with my computer skills and tapatalk. My phone is 7 yrs old, compact as I like that, decent camera. The photo resizing vanished in an apple software “upgrade” a while back.
Much review of tornado beginning. There were no watches, warnings, alerts, sirens. The TV weather lady tearfully explained that the preconditions were just below the action levels.

Got out for another ride on my 750, some mixed roads but trying to keep it on more back country lanes.

Had to stop and take some photos.

#5.

I took a ride along the Snake River yesterday in Canyon and Owyhee Counties.  Weather was supposed to be mostly sunny and 90 degrees, so I wore my mesh jacket and gloves.  The joke was on me as it turned out because it was cool, windy and raining.  I got a little worried about the cell phone as the rain went right through the jacket. ;D

Here are some scenery photos with the faithful 750F parked in the way.

Finally a ride! Boring weather, but I could avoid  rain showers.
Not warm, 16-18*C without sunshine.

My brown K2 needed a ride to verify its status. It has a very quick handling, no wobble. It feels like a smaller bike.

To do before next ride:
Reduce 064A carbs air screws 1/8 turn, rear shocks a little bit less damping (softer).

I rode on small roads, no food stop when I had food home with adult juice.
Creamy pig filet  and fresh potatoes spiced up with chili powder. ;D

I prefer sunshine lunch this part of the year when eating at the ride.

As usual, I could not stop at the most beautiful or interesting places.

Say it with pictures.

Ride #20, 152 miles.

Nice warm, clear day.  I thought the wind was going to shut down my plans for a ride this morning, but then it abruptly stopped.  The longhorns were hanging out on the side of the road just a couple of miles from the house, begging for a pic.  I rode out to Junction and stopped at a park on the river for a drink of water and hung out under a really big pecan tree for a bit.  Probably one of the biggest I've seen.  I hit the road again after I filled up the tank and headed north to London, TX.  I lived in the UK for a while and compared to London England, which I've been to many times, there's not much here.  Just a few old buildings and houses, and a few old rusty trucks.

I continued on to Mason, where I considered stopping for lunch but decided I would rather save my cash for some breakfast tacos in the morning.  I rode straight through, headed for home and made myself a ham sammich.

Thinking about a 200+ mile ride for tomorrow.

I have not let it sit more than 24 hours yet, it has been looking like 1/4" drop overnight.

Nice pics PeWe and Bud.  I may have ridden through London years ago after a memorable night spent in Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredericksburg hiding from thunderstorms in the tent.  Those beautiful pickups are going to waste.

Hi BomberMann50, I was beginning to wonder if you were gonna participate this year, welcome aboard, that’s a nice group of cycles that you led. You should go back to the first page and read the new rules. It’s easier and simpler this year but I should say upfront that 2×24 is just a bit shy of the 50 miles minimum required. Do you have a Big West ride coming up this year?

At risk of making excuses - its been a hectic year.  Getting out for a pleasure cruise hasn't been a top priority.  Service Tech Test rides aren't long enough to score.

Can i add the mileage from the gas station?  The canyon road itself is 24, but we had to fuel up down the highway a bit.

Ride #21, 277 miles.

I haven't been out of the Hill Country since early October of last year.  That changed today.  I overslept a little this morning and think I left part of my brain on my pillow.  First stop was for some breakfast tacos in town.  I normally pay with cash, but I was a little short so I used my debit card.  When I was punching buttons on POS screen I realized I forgot my glasses in the saddlebag, so I went to quickly retrieve them after I placed my order.  When my food was ready the manager gave me back my debit.  I didn't realize I left it in the POS card reader.  Doh!  Tacos were great as usual, then stepped outside to finish my coffee.  As I was gearing up to get back on the bike it quickly became obvious that I left the key in the bike with the ignition ON!  The battery was dead.  Admiral Nimitz obviously wasn't doing a good job watching my bike.  I went back into the taco shop and told the manager what I did and asked if he had any jumper cables.  His words, "I got you."  I was parked right next to his truck and within two minutes the Scout was running.  Phew!  I began to question myself, whether I should proceed with the plan.  I think the coffee was kicking in, so I went for it.

I headed due south to Hondo, TX, just west of San Antonio, where the Hill Country isn't, and the land is flat.  It's amazing how quickly the hills vanish.  Within about a mile there are hills and then there are none.  I filled up in Hondo, having to shut off the bike but it started back up easily.  I didn't have any issues the rest of the day.  I was reading 13V+ with just the ignition on and 14V+ when engine running.  I think the battery is OK.

I rode due west for bit, then turned northwest at Sabinal.  I was amazed at the mile or two of RV's waiting at the light to hit the main highway.  I guess their weekend of fun was over and they were heading home.  I headed to Concan, re-entering the Hill Country.  Just as dramatic as the exit, I was right back in it.  I headed up to Leakey, where I filled up the tank again and chilled a bit with a cold beverage.  I rode 336 north (one of the Three Sisters) and made my way over to Mountain Home where I stopped for a few photos at a rest area.  The rest area overlooks the place where I went to summer camp as kid for four years, from the early to mid 70's.  Photos 06, 07 and 08 are the camp.  06 shows the main house where the HQ is, where all the activity coaches and staff stay, and the mess hall is to the right.  07 shows the river and some cabins which I stayed in.  They've added a lot of building since I was a camper.  The dock used to be much bigger and they didn't have brightly colored kayaks back then, just the aluminum canoes.  08 is where the rifle range is/was.  We laid on mattresses and shot .22 rifles at paper targets, aimed back towards the road, but into the big cliff side on the other side of the river.  I have a lot of fond memories of this camp.  No cell phones, tv's, computers...  This is definitely where I made a connection with this part of Texas and probably a big influence for why I'm here now.

When I was done with the nostalgia, I jumped back on the bike and made one more stop in Harper for some gas.

429 miles this weekend.

Last year I was first in at 23 rides, but it wasn't until July 7th.  I would like to beat that date if I can this year.  Just three more rides to go.  Of course I've already been smoked this year...

I'm surprised at the amount of old vehicles just sitting in the fields or next to old barns around here.  Stuff doesn't rust out here.  A lot of the bodies seem solid.  Every now and then I'll see one on a trailer being hauled away.  If I still worked a normal day job and didn't spend my free time on a motorcycle and had the money and space, I would probably be building an old patinaed, mild street rod truck.

Yes, if it gets you to 50 miles in a day.

How far from pit to measured mile + return mile and back to pit? How many runs a day?
Probably doesn’t make 50 miles? Still, I’d like to see those pictures and read that ride report.

You guys are making it hard to keep up, I love it! The pictures are great too. Plus there is still enough time to join in if you have not posted anything yet.

Well a week ago (June 1st)  the Speedway races started up again and I really wanted to go and get my #20, but.........the wife set us up to have 4 of our grandkids for an overnighter. Ages 8 down to 1 so no speedway, no number 20. However this last Saturday was a joy, joy, joy. Got my speedway fix AND fide # 20, WOOHOO!!!

It turns out it was also the Conner Penhall Memorial Race, a very big deal. For those who do not know the name, Conner was the son of Bruce Penhall, 2 time World Speedway Champion. Penhall owns a very large concrete cutting, boring, and demolition company and Conner was killed by a drunk driver in 2012 while doing some freeway work. He was also an up and comming Speedway racer like his Dad, Bruce. So Saturday was the 8th annual running of this Memorial event, and boy, what a show it was! Of course they had the hotshot pros plus the juniors on 150cc machines, pee wee division, sidecar at 1,000cc, and even had a dirt bike/ dual sport exhibition! There is an oldtimer named Bobby Schwartz who I used to watch back in the late 70's and he is still at it. He came up into the stands to watch the main event because he didn't transfer and I had a chance to talk with him sitting right behind me. I think he said he was 64 or 65 years old, imagine that, riding a 500cc alcohol burning motorcycle with no brakes and only 1 foot peg! I double dog dare you to try that!

It was a great night and as a bonus ( besides the meatball sandwich) I was able to complete # 20!  So here are the stats and pics. Only 4 more to go!

Stats:
      Start temp                   81°f/27°c
      Back home.                 64°f/18°c
      Total distance.            76mi/ 122kms
