CB750K2 52 miles, #41. Needed some cleaning supplies so ran over to Bryan, OH, then from there wandered south to US20, then over to what we call Mid Toll which is OH 49 and US20, then from there on home.

Went to the monthly CVMG breakfast this morning for #60 at 123 km. on the Goldwing. It is booked in for the fuel pump recall on Monday so that’s another ride!
Got home from that and went out for another 90 mi on the  green 750. Still too rich so I guess I will have to change the main jets to something smaller. Got rained on it cooled things down along with the humidity.

Ride #17    55 miles    Home - Whitmore Lake - Home

I washed the bike and engine yesterday. It has a top end stain like a seeping puck and it needs to cleaned once or twice a year, or be repaired properly. I don’t have a frame kit on my CB so I washed it with Gunk engine brite and the garden hose. I expected some trouble afterward and I got it. The engine started on two, then three, and four when up to speed but it’s not liking idle speed. I went a few miles last night and took the lilies and ducks photos.
Today I went much further. The barge with fireworks was being loaded today at Whitmore Lake. I expect they’ll tow the barge to the middle of the lake and start lighting them off tonight at 10pm.
Down the road on Territorial I saw a new barn going up, there is hope for agriculture! But maybe it’s a wealthy gentleman’s barn, for his motor home and classic car collection. At least it’s a barn, not a 7-11 or Starbucks. The construction driveway was unfinished, with 2” crushed concrete loose on top and I immediately thought of Sean The Lone Builder and his unfortunate dump as my front wheel wobbled and my handlebars pitched. But I held on tight, got my barn photo and got out safely.
Even with a rough running CB I had a nice ride, and it went like sHell when I went through the gears at 7000rpm, just doesn’t idle nicely.

Nice!

You should see my driveway and the 1/2" mile private gravel road I live on that I have to ride down just to get to some asphalt.  My neighbor improved it a couple of years ago with a new layer of crushed limestone.  The limestone has been pulverized to mostly dust in the tire tracks, so it's a bit smoother now if I don't cross the center, but the back of my bike is covered in a layer of dust when I get home, same thing with the tail gate and rear bumper on my truck.  I'll take it though, if means not living in the big city.

That crushed limestone dust helps the gravel stick together and form a hard surface once packed down and soaked with some water and dried. The base doesn't shift or move as easy as long as the underlying soil isn't moving due to moisture.

I also have to ride over a 1/4 mile on crushed rock to reach asphalt. The crushed rock doesn't break down like the limestone but it gets pounded into the roadbed over time. I built a driveway rake that pins to the bottom of the box scraper and breaks up the rock and brings it back to the surface.

Ride #29, 125 miles.

I didn't plan on riding today.  I wanted to get out yesterday, but I waited too long and got hot.  It was supposed to rain today, but when I checked the weather this morning, no rain.  It was much cooler too.  I got to thinking, some breakfast tacos would be great.  Hit the taco joint in town and then made my way to a road that I have been planning to ride for the past week or so.  I've been scouting some new roads to ride and found this one as a backway down to Kerrville, rather than taking the highway.  It was some new scenery.  Pretty cool.  Stopped for a pic in front of the barn.  Looked old at first, but I don't think it was.  Looking forward to riding this road again in the opposite direction to see what I missed.

I zipped through Kerrville and hit Comfort for some gas.  Made a stop at a little park I usually stop at when I'm around there.  Chilled for a while in the shade and started back home.

The last photo is the road to my house, with the crushed limestone.

I was planning on a long ride tomorrow, further west.  It was supposed to be cool tomorrow, but now they're saying it's going to be hot.  I think the cool air hit us today instead.  I guess I'll find out in the morning.

The Wing is going with me. We are doing the north coast from Baie Verte peninsula to Brigus, just northwest of St. John’s. Should be at least 30 good days of riding out of the two months we’re there.

Ride #24 today, yay! I would have loved to have gotten them all in by last weekend (end of June) but the weather has been horribly cold, and last weekend it was raining, so I've decided that I'm too old and frail (mentally, if not physically, but probably both) to risk riding any bike that I like, in the rain, if I can avoid it.

Yesterday Spotty and I cracked on with re-assembling the white BMW K100RS SE, it only reached 10 deg C (50 deg F) but today, while still only around 50 when I left, it almost got to 60 by the time I got home. Further to my love of the Amazon electric vest, I'm even more in love with my Amazon electric gloves, there's nothing better than having nice warm fingers when you need to grab the front brake or clutch etc. On previous winter rides, my "reaction time" for grabbing the brake or clutch when my fingers were frozen was pretty slow, so apart from the comfort, they really are a safety item, and my chronic arthritis is thankful too. After 2 hours or so, the battery level went from 100% to 70% on the coolest level, so I'm guessing that I could have toasty warm fingers for around 5 or 6 hours on a longer ride.

It's the 7th of July today, my brother's (RIP) birthday. He bought the Triumph new for his 50th birthday in 2007 and asked Triumph to provide a bike built as close to his birthday as possible, and they found him one built on July 8th, which incidentally is my wife's birthday, so I rode the Triumph today to celebrate my bro's birthday, and to celebrate the triumph's 17th birthday tomorrow. The 8 year old Motobatt battery is getting tired, I had to use my jump pack to start it today, but by the time I stopped for fuel 20 miles up the road in Wallan, it fired right up without any outside assistance. I had the jump pack in my saddlebag, but didn't need it.

I rode on through Kilmore to Broadford, and stopped for a couple of pics.

Rocket III Sunday 7 July 2024 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I cruised to the Broadford bakery, and ordered a pie and a coffee, which were both delicious.

Rocket III Sunday 7 July 2024 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

They're lovely people too, I didn't realise that they were closing at 2 pm, but they didn't push me out, the lady owner waited patiently while I ate my lunch, which was nice. I'll remember to go back a bit earlier next time. Anyway, ride #24 is in the bag, so I can relax now, and just ride when it's nice, and work on my many projects (Kawasaki KZ750 next Spotty?) when the weather is horrid. The vest and gloves really made a difference. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Congratulations on getting #24 in Terry.
50° to start the day was what I liked this spring on my 750, warm gloves made for a great ride, though I didn't have electric gloves. We've been having 90° and humid lately.....that takes the starch out.....

Congratulations Terry, 24 rides is no small feat, and a midwinter ride adds to the challenge. There is lots I don’t know about the world and I had hoped the you were close enough to the equator to have a year round riding season. But there are lots of gadgets to make a ride more seasonable, and pleasant enough. Very nice that you have honored your brother and I figure that you will do the same for your bride today.
That pie has a little bit of red on top, is it cherry pie, raspberry or something else? I’m like a bull when he sees red, and I have to have that piece of pie, to my own detriment.
Please PM me, I have your address, I think this is the furthest that an award will travel, and I don’t want to botch it.

Congrats Terry! Glad your heated gear has extended your riding capabilities and the Rocket is bringing you smiles and comfort...it is a big 2.3L lump that makes it scoot when you twist the wrist. As big as small car motors...bigger in displacement than the motor in my car.

Bud, meat pies are popular there and here... You take them in form of burritos and tacos and their meat pies are a bit differently constructed.  Chicken pot pies and turkey and beef pot pies are popular among many...I enjoy a chicken or turkey pot pie occasionally, beef pot pies rarely...

Enjoy your adventures Lash!
Everyone stay safe... Congrats on the rides and getting out...

Well done Terry, glad to hear the gloves worked, I may have to look into some of those.

I'm  reading all this ride stuff and enjoying the pictures, it is keeping my sanity safe. As I'm sitting here on day 3 of a 6 day trip in Kansas city for the grandson's wedding. I tried to figure out how I could have brought the bike and there were 2 obstacles I couldn't overcome,  it wouldn't fit in the overhead on the airplane and Mama put her foot down about riding it here. So 3 more days of purgatory for me.!

Keep the rides and pics comming ,guys. And congrats again Terry.

You have almost half 2024 left for rides.

The weather here is not nice. Typical old swedish summer are back with rain and cold winds the last week.

Thanks guys, it was a very pleasant ride after a week of crap. Wife’s mother is in hospital again after another fall and breaking another vertebrae in her back, and at 92 she’s not doing great. Her best friend from childhood died on Monday and I took the wife to her funeral on Friday so it was great to het out on the bike yesterday and clear my head.

It was a beef pie, I squirted some tomato sauce (ketchup) into the pie, which was really good, although not as good as a Heathcote pie, which I reckon are about the best I’ve had. The gloves were fantastic, although they’re really more ski gloves than bike gloves, so wouldn’t provide much protection if I went sliding down the road, but my jeans wouldn’t have fared any better, I really should start wearing my leather jeans, but I was in too much of a hurry to worry about kitting up properly. Anyway I’m happy I got #24 in, and am looking forward to doing some more, and when the weather warms up getting some of my classic bikes out on the road again, the Rocket is a great winter bike, but not so much fun on warmer days as it produces a fair amount of heat. ;D
