Ride #17 this morning while it is still cool. Started off at 8:30, 61°F, 57 miles of mostly back roads with a couple on 50mph 2 lane roads to get where I wanted to get on. Lots of old homes and farms, one meandering along the back of a river, stopped by the old uncontrolled airport and of course, some Twisties through the hilly countryside of southern NH. The sugar maples are starting to tinge into fall colors because of the mid 40s low temps we had for a couple days this week. My favorite time of the year other than the shortening days really getting evident this past week and cooling temps. No longer does the sun come up at 5 am.......and is going down before 7:30, compared to 8:30pm a month ago. We've already lost @ 2hrs of sunshine hours.....  Ah well. Time goes on even when we want it to stand still for us.
No food stop this ride...... The K5 loves the cooler temps! Me too.
The end of the ride 10:15, 73°F.

Wow! Looks nice Stu. Plus the cooler temps are a good thing.

Our temps are going down this weekend, so I will hit the road for Speedway tonight and then my "birthday ride" on Sunday. I think they will be  # 34 & 35 for me. Looking g for a high miler on Sunday. Tonight is California state championship,  should be a good show. Tomorrow's destination depends on which way the front wheel is pointing when I leave. I just love it when a plan comes together!

Thanks guys, it was a beautiful late summer morning ride with the reprieve from the 90s heat we were having. I spent the rest of the day in the shop rebuilding a set of early carbs for a friend. Going back out in the am for a memorial ride to the track, NHIS.

Ride #38, 325 miles.

Been hot the past two weeks.  Highs in the 100's.  Today we got a break.  The next two weeks look promising with highs in the mid 80's to low 90's.

I was shooting for miles today, but wanted to avoid the butterflies, so I went north.  This was my farthest north-western ride since moving to the Hill Country.  It was almost a little chilly when I got up and it felt great outside when I was wiping down the bike and filling it up with gas, but when I left about 8:30 it felt like it was getting a little steamy.  Once I got going it was fine.

I got out on the highway and was tailing a guy on his Harely.  I pulled up next to him at a construction zone with only one lane open and had a little chat with him while we waited for the light to turn green.  He just bought the shiny new Road Glide yesterday and it only had 200 miles on it.  Looked like it had all the bells and whistles.  He said it a had a sport mode that would give him more power.  I can't imagine what he paid for it.  He said he upgraded from a 2021 HD that had 70k miles on it.  He was on his way home from work...I guess he works the night shift.  He must commute on his bikes.  I've had my 2021 Scout for exactly two years and it has 17.5 K on it.  I bought it used with 450 miles on it.  Anyway, the light turned green and I pulled over in Mason, TX and didn't see him again.

I made it to Eden and stopped for gas, along with some beef jerky and some peanuts for lunch later.  I rode to Eden on 6/16, which is the farthest NW I had previously ridden.  I carried on north to Ballinger, but as I was riding through the small town of Paint Rock I noticed the Concho County courthouse and stopped for a pic.  The Blacksmith shop was right across the street.  That's something you don't see every day.  I looked them up when I got home.  They mostly make handmade cook wear.  I guess there's not much of a demand for horseshoes and swords these days.  The town is named after some old Indian paintings found on some rocks along the Concho River, just north of the town.  The paintings are on a private ranch, but they do tours.  Maybe something to do one day.

I got to Ballinger and hung a left.  Didn't see much of the town.  It looked a little bigger than most of the towns around it.  I'm sure there's some history there, but pretty much the same trees and brush growing everywhere.  More farms than around here.  I guess flatter terrain and less rocks.

The next stretch was from Ballinger to Brownwood.  56 miles of pretty much the same kind of sights.  Lots of really small towns with people piling up junk in their yards and selling it.  I guess anything to make a buck.  These little towns look like there on the verge of becoming ghost towns.  I got two Brownwood, where I filled up again and peeled off a layer.  It was getting warm.  Spotted the mural next door to the gas station so I snapped a pic.

I headed south from there and stopped at the city park in Goldthwaite to eat my lunch.  I was surprised to find the floss pick in the beef jerky.  Kind of makes sense though.  Felt like the old Cracker Jack days.  The park was quiet, and it was nice being in the shade.

I started making my way back home and noticed the misspelling in Google Maps when I got to Cherokee.  I had to stop and get a screen shot.  Filled up in Llano for the last time and headed home.  During the last stretch, I was thinking about the ride I began to notice a theme..."Indian".  There was Paint Rock, the mural in Brownwood, the misspelling in Google maps, and of course my motorcycle.  Maybe I was thinking too much.

It was a fun ride.  Looking forward to cooler weather.

Happy Birthday, Jim!!!

Kevin the picture looks good, thanks. Also thank you all for the birthday wishes,  I had a good ride for my annual celebration , but I have to adjust the pics for rides 34  & 35 and will post soon.

Bud good to see you are getting some long rides, I fell a bit short today with only 212 miles. I was hoping to get 250-350, but it was still good!

Yesterday was ride #18, 201 miles, start temp 61°F at 8:30am, finish time 6:30 pm 74°F.

This was a memorial ride for the local Kawasaki shop co-owner who died 3 years ago at the track passing in his favorite corner.
We gathered to sign in and talk until 11am KS up to ride the 61 miles with to State Police Motorcops stopping traffic as well as local town officers blocking traffic. @140-150 bikes and Syders. We got led around the track between races for a lap with lots of racers and people around the track taking pictures and waves.
Then we could stay for lunch at the restaurant and watch the races or head out.
I rode up to Lake Winnipesaukee to have lunch with a couple of friends, they headed west to ride some class 4 roads so then I headed east around the lake missing rain showers but had a few wet roads before heading south to get home. A great day and great people.

I don’t think I’m riding today. It’s 78f at 8am, skies are darkening, with rain in the forecast and a heat advisory.

Per, here is a photo collage for you, for completing 24 rides this year.

These photo collections are just a small effort on my part. All you riders are doing a much bigger effort by doing your rides and posting them here.

Thunder now, and the rain has begun.

8-24-2024 #58, 138 miles CB500X, rode over to Rossford, OH and stopped in Fin, Feather, and Fur and then slid over to Basspro, brought the turnpike back home, traffic was smoking along at 85mph most of the way back.

8-25-2024 #59, 110 miles CB500X, took a ride over to Holland, OH then came back home, nice day to be out on two wheels. CB500X has just over 3k miles on it now, needs to get 4k oil change cheduled.

#27 This morning. 128 kilometers, all back roads to the S.W. Found a couple I’ve never been on! Picked up the vapour blasted petcock parts for the S/C project. The float bowls was so packed with crud my ultra sonic tank made no impression. Came back spotless! Very different than later ones, so really wanted to rebuild it (old one on the right). Everything in the Yamiya kit fit perfectly. Good to go.

Great rides and interesting adventures! Keep up the two-wheel therapy as fall moves into various parts of the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere moves into their spring to summer. Some have limited riding days available the next 3-4 months of 2024...so make the best of them...

Terry, this one is for you. I have taken the time to gather some of your photos, the motorcycles that you have used here in pursuit of 24 rides. I can see that I have screwed up right from the get go by missing the black Triumph, but the point is, you have a lot of nice motorcycles, my seat of the pants says a wider variety shown than in the past. I think your current favorites are at the top, and there will be a Honda Four that might be added in the future. I don’t believe I have missed many.
Anyway, Congratulations Mate on the 24 rides and thanks for floating and steering this thread.

Rode To and Back From BMST - fjr got pretty salty.  Especially working as the v.i.r. escort on friday.  3 tanks of gas from the house to the track.
1 solid tank full spent going from town to track and around

The race bike got 32 miles on the salt one day, and 24 on the next.

Can the BMST attendees get a multiplier for the strain put on their motors?

Hi Bomber, we have been down this road before.
 Strain multipliers?
 32 miles?
 24 miles?
 Tanks of gas?

This is for you to sort out. You can do it, you did last year.

Ride #39, 159 miles.

I didn't have time for a high-miler today.  Lots of stuff on the to-do list.  I headed east to Wimberley, TX.  It's been about a year since I've traveled in that direction and probably about 8-10 years since I've been to Wimberly.  I don't like riding east because the closer you get to Austin, the more people and traffic you encounter.  Today was no exception.  Generally, I try to avoid traveling east of Highway 281.  Unfortunately, I had to ride through Dripping Springs to get to Wimberley.  Dripping Springs has basically become a left coast annexation.  It's gotten really crowded, so a lot of it has spilled into Wimberley.  I just passed through and kept riding.  Got no reason to go back, at least for the time being.

I stopped for gas in Blanco and spotted a really clean 1977-79 Goldwing, sans fairing & bags, parked at the restaurant next to the gas station.  I was trying to pump gas and get my phone out to take a pic but the owner came out and quickly rode off before I could get the pic.  I rode south a little way to a park to try and find a picnic table in the shade, but it turned out to be a sportsplex type park, with a rodeo arena and baseball diamonds.  I gave up the idea of stopping for a breather and made my way home, but did make a quick stop for a couple of pics along the Blanco River.

When I got back to Fredericksburg I spotted a car hauler loaded with four Cyber trucks.  Kind of a strange sight.  I pulled up next to it at a stoplight, but couldn't get my phone out fast enough and ended up behind it at the next light.  Looks like it was hauling them west.  I'm pretty sure they're built in Austin, so it was probably heading for I-10.  I saw another one earlier in Dripping Springs driving around.  I just don't see the appeal.

We've got lower temps this next week, but some rain is supposed to be coming in.  We've had a pretty mild summer all things considered.  Only about two weeks of 100+ days.  Usually September is just as hot as August, but it looks like we're catching a break this year.
