A visit to Yamiya in Nagoya
« on: January 14, 2024, 05:30:59 PM »
I was able to make the trek to Yamiya this past week. My wife and I are visiting my son and his family in Chigasaki and Nagoya is about 1 1/2 hours away by bullet train. You would never know it was Yamiya but for the Honda sign out front. It's a 3 story building with a large carport/entrance off the street. However it leads to candy land. The main floor is the retail area, 2'nd floor the shop and the 3'rd floor the owners' living quarters. The owner is a 26 year old man who inherited the business from his father. From this modest shop comes some incredible parts and bikes. They are currently working a full restoration of a K6. I'm going to have to up my level of work after having a good look at this K6.
The main floor has an interesting line up of bikes including a sandcast that was the owner's father's. There a 400 Super Sport with 4 into 4 pipes they have developed!
The owners and staff were very generous with their time, my son pretty much had to drag me out of there. After sharing some photos of my collection they offered me a job. Quite a compliment.

Great story and visit.

Did you happen to notice if they have parts for a CB550K ?
Can't see anything on their website.

Wow!  Thanks for sharing this!  I have been following Yamiya on Instagram, along with a few other japanese cb750 shops that dont sell world wide.  The pictures, videos and other posts are mind blowing.  And yes, the Japanese restorers set a VERY high standard.
If it works good, it looks good...

That is so cool you got to visit them.  I too figured it was a large manufacturing facility.  I had sent them an email a month ago about the reality of them having CB350 Four exhaust systems again and they emailed me right back like within 12 hours.

Forgot this one of the owner and one of his own bikes. They don't just do restorations. While walking to the shop a candy blue green K went by us. What a nice sound with stock pipes!

That's a clever way to lower the seat! Most Japanese folks are shorter, so the 750 was always hard for them to ride.

I remember when, in the 1970s, the Tokyo Police were riding in groups of 3 riders, one (the head of the trio) on the 750, the '2nd' on a 450 twin and the '3rd' on a 350 twin. Someone brought me a picture of it for my shop. This was their patrol group: I always wondered how they might have kept the 750's plugs clean in constant city traffic?

Perhaps they absolutely caned it on the highway back to the station at the end of the shift

Alloy rims, an upgrade that I'm sure makes a difference. Unsprung weight.

from what I have seen, custom grab bars are very popular in Japan.  Some are approaching chopper style sissy bar proportions!  I think Yamiya even sells several of these custom grab bars.

Interesting to see the shop hasnt changed since I was last there in 2007 when the father was running it. Looks like they have more bikes now but the shelfs look the same! I had to guided to the shop by an old lady shopkeeper after i asked her for directions to Yamiya ;)

I saw these two bikes in a Nagoya car showroom and the red CB750 at a service station

Yamiya750 is a very good shop selling important parts with good quality. I have ordered a lot from them.

They should have a shop in Europe too.
The shipping has increased too much during Covid when they changed shipper from the very good Japan Post to UPS for certain countries, my included.

Suddenly doubled price making order impossible.

Looks like vintage bikes are a big deal there and they keep them in great shape. The other Honda 4 behind the red 750, I wonder which bike that is, I don't recognize it. Nice bikes
