Painting 70’ ko upper triple tree question

I cleaned & removed loose paint. Should I primer & what paint? It seems like it’s a satin finish all its own?

I've read that a semi gloss is close

New CB750 K5 Planet Blue, demise by ex cousin in law at 9,000 miles...
New CB750 K6 Anteres Red, to replace the totaled K5, I sold this K6 at 45k in 1983, I had heavily modified it, many great memories on it and have missed it greatly.....

Definitely a semi gloss. Honda never primed anything, so you could just feather the edges and hit it again. For a really smooth and lasting finish I bead blasted mine clean, very light coat of zinc chromate primer and a couple of top coats. I probably used Armor Coat products.

Dupli Color DE1635 is a spot on match it sprays well and will not cause lifting.
Scuff and feather with gray scotch brite.Clean thoroughly with Naphtha.
I would prefer to media blast and put a couple fresh coats on. It will look better and i prefer not to put paint over paint if at all possible. The Dulpi Color is made to go directly on bare metal.

Remove all old paint. The old can flake off, an even surface tricky to get.

I used 2k rattle can.

I did my other bike's yoke plus a spare.

I painted 3 pilot lamp holders  "dashboard" at the same time.
The rattle can to be used within a few hours.

There are some repro ones avail that do not seem to be brown wood grain around the jewels.

 I like the VHT roll bar and chassis paint.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Yes, that's how they looked like when new. Brushed alu.
Order of lights and text variants depending on year. CB750 K0-K1 did not have this. Idiot lamps in gauges.



The new aftermarket look very cheap when HONDA text is flat, not relief as original.

There are quite a few "DTM" (direct to metal) epoxy primers now suited to Aluminum. I used DP epoxy primer on my fork lowers in early 1990's...it is good, there are a few stone chips in the color-clear but the primer is still perfect. But DP is no longer made and the replacement is nowhere as good. Nailing down which primers are ok under which paints can be frustrating but I settled on Eastwood 1:1 epoxy primer with their urethane 3:1 single stage topcoat. It is also confusing because many of the primers intended for direct to metal cannot be used over body filler. The days of good old lacquer primer and every kind of auto body paint going over that fine were far simpler :-).

God, isn't that the truth....

If you start pressing them for answers about  compatibility they will tell you "well you could try it and see what happens" LOL. I bought some SEM primer at first because that seemed like a good choice, but you need a urethane primer over it anyway before a urethane topcoat.....or you could try it and see what happens according the the mfg of the urethane single stage LOL.
