Topic: cleaning the crankshaft oil holes?

 What's the best way to flush out the oil pathways in a crank that's been out of an engine for a while? Or any crank for that matter?

I use a pressure washer. Wearing a raincoat.

 I wonder if that thread could go into tips and tricks? 

  I just realized I have a crank that is plugged all the way to the bearings, it's a perfect one to practice on, or maybe even save it. I'll try to get some good pics.
  I didn't get a ball removed yet, but I did drag that old crank out and run a drill through the oil holes that I can reach. The balls on this one stick out so far that I'm surprised tapping them with a small chisel didn't knock one out. I did polish a main with used 400 grit and it cleaned up well.

 Here's a picture of a muddy rod journal. I think this happened while sitting, the bearings aren't spun or worn out, they just are coated with whatever was in the oil.

Looks similar to the accumulated sludge in a centrifugal oil filter…

Perhaps your balls were leaking a bit…😁

I had a lot of that in the bottom of my oil tank. Oil overheating and irregular oil changes at some point of its life.
