Engine side cover finishes
« on: January 21, 2024, 03:18:13 PM »
My new 1975 CB400F has all the indications that the engine side covers are all painted Cloud Silver and not Polished. Is this correct? all the Pictures i have researched online (BAT, Google) show all the bikes i can find have painted covers. My CB360T has all painted covers as well.My CB550,750 have polished covers. Thanks

I believe the engine side covers were originally clear coated?

The polished side covers were clear coated to prevent oxidation, the others were painted silver for protection

a polished nos clutch cover for a '75 550F compared to a 400F....I'd have to vote painted. Go to ebay and look at some of the 400 stuff, some rough looking parts but still look painted. your call.

Our ‘77 400F definitely had painted covers. From memory, I think I stripped and polished the generator cover…..
