“Put Your Right Foot Out”
« on: January 23, 2024, 05:55:42 PM »
Test fitting hardware before installing the motor in my cb750K6. Ever notice the right foot peg is significantly further ahead than the left? I wonder why?

I was thinking clearance for large feet to shift on the left side (alternator interference)

This was the most-common question that 750 owners would ask whenever they got together in numbers - with beer.
While I never heard Honda weigh in on it, some of my favorites were:
"It offsets the massive torque of the engine during acceleration."
"It helps keep your balance during the speed wobble when you're decelerating and let go of the handlebars" (this one is actually due to the offset front wheel...).
"It's because the alternator is in the way of my boot when I try to shift."  (I think this one is pretty close?)
"It's because the oil tank on the right side is heavier than on the left, so this makes you shift your balance to match things up". (Huh?)
"Honda wasn't going to have a kickstarter at first, then decided later to have one, so the frame had to be modified." (Maybe?)

Alternator/ boot clearance makes sense. It’s obviously very deliberate. I wonder what #1250 looks like??? Will check.

It had something to do with the Hokey Pokey.

Interesting, my Sandcast #1250 is the same. I wonder if the part is the same on a cb450? Lots of parts just moved over.

They are all 1 1/2” offset. Perfect fit if you have a right leg longer than the left…

well thats awkward, since i had my left hip replaced my right leg is now about an inch shorter than the good one, though i can feel my right hip starting to go so when i get that fixed they'll be the same length again

It's obviously done to compensate for one testicle hanging lower than the other, ensuring the rider doesn't squish his nut sack.
