Topic: 1972 CB500/4 JDM Colour

Hi All.
Trying to help someone out with the name of this colour. It's a standard JDM colour but does anyone know the name of it or any other info.

It's not boss maroon metallic, is it?...that was a purple 750 color, forgot what year was available in the U.S., K3, K4?  Anyway, that looks a little lighter, brighter than the few bikes I have seen that were that.  But then it seems like boss maroon metallic was fairly rare, and I don't know what effect U.V. had on that color as gar as fading/darkening/dulling.

Probably is boss maroon mettalic, the 550 had that colour as well

I'm going out on a limb and say it could be 'Iris Purple RP2MC'

Thanks, definitely not Boss Maroon as I'm personally familiar with that color. This is more of a Violet / purple colour.

If you can read Japanese there is a copy of a very early 500 Japanese parts book on the UK site in either Ashs dropbox or alladins cave, i know its there as i lent it Ash to scan.
Only place i ever found a part number for the sticker under the sidepanel badge for the 500 K0

Im going to send a copy of it to a couple of chaps in Japan to see if they can translate the colour names. That do may be too early as this violet colour is on a 1972 but worth a try.

Hi NJ...there is always the chance that particular bike did not come from the factory in what appears to be the Iris Purple color.  As posted above, its a 350 color.

Seems we all have changed the colors of our bikes over the years!

I think he's saying the bike is japan released only, and they can come in different colors than exports, and that is true.
The 350G was released in '73 , the 500 he's talking about musta been earlier. Honda could've used that purple on a JDM only and then used it on a U.S. import the next year.

What this forum needs, is at least one member who can read and speak Japanese. We can then send him or her to Japan to interview the people that were involved in the development and production of our CB Fours.
