Mecum- Las Vegas???
« on: January 25, 2024, 02:05:30 PM »
I swear, I’m getting dumber by the minute. I cannot figure out how these clowns run this auction.

•   Little to NO information about the bike
•   Pictures on their website on some lots are NOT the bikes that are selling.
•   Do they use stock pictures? You may as well bid with a blind fold on.
•   Sold price on the Live auction is different than the sold price on their website.

I can’t imagine people spending any amount of money when you have no idea what you’re bidding on. Is it me? What I’m I missing? Maybe that’s why it’s held in Vegas, huh.

The website is preliminary info, go to the auction if you see something you want, bikes are there for inspection, 2000 bikes were auctioned in 2023.
Ten rows or so, 200 per row, it is a sight to see.

I've been to Mecum but for Car auction in Houston a few years back. It is the ultimate show and a great environment, everyone there that shares your passion.

I use the website to see the final sales price [you have to be logged in]

A non-original K3 sold for $1650...

The final sale price probably includes the buyer's premium, that's what auction houses tend to show.

So, who's been checking it out this year for SOHCs? I started looking but ran out of time so far. I had a look for CB400Fs and found 5 in total, last year I paid a bit more attention as I was off work and I even kept notes (nerd alert), there were 2 CB400Fs and 15 CB750s.

This year, the CB400F up tomorrow is a rare 1977 model and does look very nice. I haven't looked at CB750s at all yet, but there are no Rickmans or Seeleys alas.

It does include the buyer's premium, but it has been varying, so they must have different levels of buyer premiums?

Yes, Mecum has two levels of buyers premium: 10% for in person auction win, 12% if on phone or online.

I saw the buyer of the 750 kaw. was released from his bid and the seller was called back to the auction. He was already 4 hours away.
