No spark , WHY??
« on: January 29, 2024, 06:00:02 PM »
Hi all, it's been a long time since i visited the forums
I have an issue giving me fits. Just picked up a 750 chopper
the wiring is/was a nightmare.
I've got power to the points, and coils. The spark at the points is super weak and I'm getting nothing at the spark plugs.  I tried a different condenser, but no improvement so I put it back to the orig condensers.
Any help would be appreciated, TIA

What's the battery voltage?

Do you have good ground? Powder Coated or painted frame?

Sounds like a wiring issue. I would trace each wire for continuity from end to end. Undo all the connections clean and check again.

I replaced my points and condensers with 50$ electronic ignition from eBay and original coils, just to get it running after the rebuild and at some point will go back to OEM ignition plus Hondaman unit.

With an ohm meter I would check each coil from sparkplug cap to sparkplug cap. #1 and #4 then #2 and #3 You should get 24kohm i think.

Spark plug caps alone should be about 5Kohm On my cb550 I had issues with the sparkplug caps. The #2 and #3; kept shorting out until I used the long ones outer ones for the middle cylinders as well. It works.

And not to sound like a smartass, but are you making sure the sparkplug got good ground to the engine case to give you the spark?
