What is THIS and does it need replacing?
« on: January 29, 2024, 06:27:43 PM »
Can anyone tell me what this is and whether a piece of it being chipped off warrants replacement? Thanks

Its a blanking plug, yes if it leaks oil, caused by an O ring chain and to do it properly you split the crankcases

This.

It's possible to patch it and run it -- I think I used JB weld on mine years ago and it held up (preventing that annoying drip that comes through the cover onto the shifter). I put a small washer behind the sprocket -- changed the geometry of the chain just a little, I'm sure adding to some premature wear, but it worked for me.

Looks like maybe the sprocket wore into it? It doesn't look cracked now that I look at it. It looks ground into by something maybe either the sprocket or the chain???...

Not the sprocket, as i said an O ring chain or extra wide chain

You may be able to fix that blanking plug using case sealer;either Hondabond or Yamahabond.

It wasn't leaking before. I second the Yamabond or JB Weld idea over splitting the cases (yikes!)
