CB400f Clutch Basket Rubbers
« on: February 06, 2024, 09:16:03 AM »
I just received my Clutch basket repair kit. Has anyone else done this repair?  any tips or thoughts would be appreciated. I got the rivets drilled out so far. The Rubbers are a nice tight fit and made from Viton Rubber. Looking forward to that rattle going away.

Got It done!  It came out great. The hardest part was getting the little buggers over the post and in the hole. I had to give them a bath in boiling water and then lots of oil. Super clean inside this engine with 20k miles. Someone was good on changing the oil regularly!

Its a guy named Max from the UK who  used to be on the UK forum.

There are 2 different shapes. I believe most US models with 408 cc jugs use type "B".I bought a spare basket so I could be sure before I ordered. So I now have a spare basket I'd be willing to sell for what i payed for it as I dont need it anymore.

Got the Bike out for a short cold and moist spin this morning.

It was Nice not to have the Clutch Basket Rattle anymore. just the usual primary drive noise but not to bad.

I would recommend this fix for anyone who has one of these bikes with this design.. all 50ish years old. The rubber is shot.

Funny enough, I'm in the process of replacing these for my CB650. There are no suppliers of dampers for the CB650 clutch though, but I found that [ur=https://www.kmcarburetor.com/l]KMCarburetor[/url] sells the CBX ones and they are the exact correct shape. Only problem is that they're entirely too tall. Grabbed a set and need to cut some height off of them. Probably going to get it all done this weekend.

I'm looking forward to losing the clutch rattle as well.

Did you get the rubbers shaved down and installed over the weekend?

I got them cut down to the right height, but still need to shorten the bolts that the dude at KM sent. They have a super low profile head that matches the same as the original rivets so there's no chance of interference with anything else. Will get to that this week.
