1972 Honda cb 350 four jack shaft install into starter clutch
« on: February 08, 2024, 04:23:10 PM »
I did a practice run for case assembly & had some difficulty getting the shaft to go through the starter clutch but after 15 min of fiddling it lined up .I then seperated the cases and applied hondabond & torqed to specs
Now after hrs of trying I just cant get the shaft into the starter clutch as it seems to be unable to line up properly .Just wandering if someone has had this problem  .& where did I go wrong .
  Thx

What’s a jack shaft? Some pictures would help visually see what issue your dealing with there.
Common sense.....isn't so common!

Primary drive shaft, problem is probably a tiny "kink" in the primary chain you can try slighlty rotating crank back and forth to see if start clutch/primary gear move to to the rear a fraction.
Occasionaly you get one the is awkward and usualy responds to the mechanic going away for tea/coffee!

Works almost every time with very large double reduction planetary covers too…more troublesome ones you may just have to go home and try again in the morning…

If you're talking about the Starter Reduction Gear on the 750...
you must install the gear into the pocket first, then rotate it to the left a little until the hole in the gear aligns with the hole in the case. Then set the shaft in, put the flat washer on the top, then install the cover.
