Bore Clearance for Yosh 823 Kit?
« on: February 08, 2024, 04:41:28 pm »
NOS 823 kit with rings, about to send to machine shop but I realized I don't have instructions or literature from Yoshimura for clearances.  Anyone know of a reference?

Contact Curt Jordan in Oceanside CA. He has all his notes from the motors he has built from the 70s to today.  He is a wealth of knowledge building race motors a long time.

Those look to be cast pistons. I'd set the clearance at 0.0010"-0.0012" if I were making the engine for someone.

If I remember correctly it was .0012....I had them in an engine about 40 years ago.

Yep got a hold of Curt, very nice chatting on the phone and I’ll likely try to take my pistons to his shop. Only a 45 min drive for me.  Thanks for the lead!

It is. The exhaust valves are directional....that relief allows any piston to go in any bore. Wiseco has done it that way too as well as others.

Thanks for re-posting on it so it brought it back to me: I just noticed the misplaced "1" in the first number! That 0.0001" would be a loooong break-in... :(
It should have been 0.0010" .

I did see that but chose not to mention it.

Interesting. Good to know… The last pistons I bought for a 750 were 71.25mm Wiseco’s… mine don’t look to share the ambidextrous abilities. Unless they have removed the tab. Mine look machines like the  wisecos Kenny has advertised with the coatings..
