75 CB550. the decal that is (supposedly you can correct me on this if I'm wrong) on the fuel tank forward of the filler that says "wear a helmet", is that the correct location for that decal? And if so, is that decal supposed to just be stuck on the tank, or underneath the clearcoat? Need to get this figured out since I'm having my tank picked up by the painter

the decal is forward of the gas cap. The left edge is positioned pretty much along the center of the tank, so it's more centered with the cap, not the tank.
You can see these orig tanks.
There was no clear coat , kinda evident also, on the tanks. The decal was just stuck on.
But all restorers clear over decals with restorations, unless your striving for authenticity.
